On Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 3 tensions rise between Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) and the Kansas City mob as Dwight narrowly escapes a fatal hit, alliances are challenged, and murderous schemes are revealed. The episode delivers a thrilling mix of courtroom drama, betrayal and gangland deaths as Dwight tackles a dangerous landscape of mob politics and personal rivalries.
Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: The Courtroom Bet
In the first scene of the episode, Dwight is defending himself in court against allegations that he bought off former girlfriend and ATF agent Stacy Beale (Andrea Savage). Despite the opposition of the prosecution and judge, Dwight can win over the jury with his charm and humor. It was a wise move for him to call Stacy as a witness. Dwight tells everyone about their difficult relationship and how Stacy once took a bullet for him. Due to his emotional appeal and the absence of hard proof connecting him to the purported — $1 million bribe, Dwight is found not guilty. Even if the trial had been anticipated, it ends abruptly.
Still, Stacy is not at all happy. Their tumultuous relationship comes to an end when she tells Dwight that she is being relocated — to Anchorage. Dwight’s success is made more melancholic by her pessimistic assessment of their lives, “Your life, my life, no matter what, are failures.” She implies that even though Dwight may have prevailed in court, his personal life is still in pieces.
Avoided Betrayal
The story takes a sinister turn while Dwight is at a casino celebrating getting off. Still wanting to keep control of Tulsa, Bill Bevilaqua, the head of the Kansas City mob, sends a hitman to assassinate Dwight. Throughout the episode, there are hints of possible betrayal from Dwight’s former underboss, Goodie (played by Chris Caldovino), as he is shown meeting in secret with — Bill Bevilaqua and Chickie, his former boss. It is implied to the audience that Goodie may have turned on Dwight, potentially paving the way for an attempted murder.
The shock is that Goodie is still faithful to Dwight when the hitman approaches him during Dwight’s party. Goody and ‘Bigfoot’, Dwight’s powerful enforcer, trick the hitman in a well-planned play. In a heated moment, Goody stabs the hitman — proving his loyalty to Dwight. The body, wrapped in plastic, is left on Bevilacqua’s doorstep as a reminder that Dwight is not going to back down. With this triple cross Dwight once again demonstrates that he is always one step ahead of his opponents.
Armond’s Dilemma
Another plotline concerns Dwight’s associate Armand, who is facing financial difficulties as a result of his impending divorce. Dwight’s rival Cal Thrasher takes advantage of the situation to offer Armand a large sum of money ($3,000), with the vague implication that Armand might owe him a favor in the future. In a desperate attempt to settle his obligations with Dwight and his wife, Armand takes the money and tells Dwight it was the result of a lucky bet. This subplot foreshadows Armand’s future troubles because taking Thresher’s money will undoubtedly come with risky conditions. Additionally, it is reminiscent of the previous Goodie storyline in that both individuals must decide whether to betray Dwight or stay faithful. Goodie demonstrates his commitment, but Armand’s future behavior is yet unknown.
Dwight and Margaret Romance
The episode also explores Dwight’s private life as he develops a deeper relationship with Margaret Devereaux (Dana Delany), the glitzy rancher. A romantic touch occurs, when Dwight spends the night with ‘Margaret’ after planning a murder and hiding the evidence. Their developing romance provides a momentary break from the Mayhem. However, with Dwight’s opponents still circling, Margaret’s relationship with him will surely make things more difficult for him.
Reflections on Power
One of the episode’s most introspective moments occurs in Goody’s conversation with Dwight’s associate Mitch Keller (Garrett Hedlund) at the casino. When Goody asks how hard it is to write song lyrics, Mitch says it’s more difficult when he’s happy, but “when it rains, it rains a lot.” The subsequent assassination of Carl raises the stakes even further and indicates that the Tulsa mob war is far from ended.
The Battle for Power
The episode’s main conflict stems from Dwight’s resistance to bowing to the Kansas City mob. Bevilaqua and Carl, his accomplice, attempt to coerce Dwight into submitting by asserting that Tulsa is theirs. Never one to back down, Dwight declares his independence from both — Kansas City and New York and brushes off their threats. Bevilaqua promises to return with another offer, so his failure to negotiate sets the stage for more strife. Carl’s subsequent murder raises the stakes even further and signals that the mob war in Tulsa is far from over.
Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 3 deftly blends character exploration between its characters and subtle relationships with courtroom drama, violent confrontations, and personal intrigue. Even though, Dwight seems to have escaped unharmed, his adversaries are still hiding in the shadows. As the power struggle in Tulsa intensifies, the episode leaves viewers wondering who Dwight can really trust, with Goodie demonstrating his allegiance and Armand maybe on the verge of betrayal.
