In the Dark Season 3 Finale Recap

Murphy has been on the lookout for Jess. Despite what her friends say, Murphy is convinced she is still alive and has gone to great measures to aid her search, even facing a violent drug dealer. Season 3, Episode 12 confirmed Jess’s survival. But Jess isn’t happy about being discovered. The final scene of In the Dark reveals that Jess wished to remain “dead.” She had decided a long time ago that the only way she could avoid being hunted by the cops was to fake her death, so she went to work at a pet store and let Murphy go on with her life. When Murphy learns of this, she is crushed, and the two cry their hearts out to each other. Murphy almost forgets that in order to track down Jess, she made a deal with a deranged child molester who has been keeping his niece, Jennifer Walker, as his “girlfriend” in his basement. He’s still waiting for Murphy and Jess to drive them to Canada in his car.

Meanwhile, Darnell is persuaded to give Murphy’s location by his love interest, investigator Sarah Barnes. Darnell doesn’t correct Sarah and gives out Murphy’s location despite knowing that Jess is the one who killed Nia. When the cops arrive on the scene, everything goes to hell. Jennifer’s uncle believes Murphy has called the cops on him and is attempting to shoot her. Sarah enters, accompanied by Gene and Josh, and shoots Jennifer’s uncle through the pet store window. Murphy realizes what has transpired and encourages Jess to flee, which she does promptly. Murphy attempted to locate Jess earlier in the season by assuming Jennifer Walker’s identity, which she stole after Nia Bailey’s murder. She came upon Jennifer Walker’s awful end during this time. Despite the fact that Murphy claimed Jennifer was always alive, no one listened to him, notably Sarah. Despite the fact that Murphy is jailed at the end of the episode. Murphy is still in prison, but she did aid at least one individual.
