The sky went yellow on the last day of filming with all of the sand and dust from the Sahara Desert. We shot there for six days in total and in all but one of those days no-one could get in the water because it was too dangerous. The waves were huge. Then we had one day of weak sun and so we went for it. And I think it works on screen.” Málaga, which is a municipality in Spain that serves Miami and is the setting for several important sequences in the program, notably the beach scene where John leaves his clothes on the coast to fake his death.

The scenario is based on the true events that follow the incredible rise and fall of British politician John Stonehouse (Matthew Macfadyen). Stonehouse’s life, which seemed perfect on the outside as a rising member of Prime Minister Harold Wilson’s (Kevin R. McNally) Labour government and devoted family man, unravels in the early 1970s amid rumors of fraud and espionage. the mysterious disappearance in November 1974 of a prominent Labour British politician: John Stonehouse, Postmaster General in the cabinet of Harold Wilson and Member of Parliament for Walsall North. After Stonehouse jumped into the water and pretended to drown, all that was left was a nice pile of his garments. The 49-year-old politician was believed to have perished in the ocean or been devoured by sharks at the time, but in reality, he had left his family behind to have an affair in Australia. It was a futile attempt to protect Stonehouse’s honor that he had faked his own death in the United States. He was taken back to the UK from Australia after being charged with espionage, forgery, theft, and fraud.
