In the previous episode 13 of Supergirl, the race for the Totems is on. The Super Friends continue their search for Nyxly, as she works with Mitch to find the Courage Totem in her mission to construct the Allstone. Lena (Katie McGrath) returns to National City and immediately goes to assist Supergirl and the others in finding the Totems. In order to move on from them, Lena travels to National City with her maternal answers and tags along with Kara to The Fortress. They converse with a Kryptonian witch named Vita and learn how to discover and handle totems there. They also discover that, because the courage totem is a magical power source, it’s feasible that it evolved into a true emblem of courage. This implies that it might be any time in Earth’s history. The Courage Totem was discovered in National City by Nyxly. It took the form of David’s slingshot, which he used to kill Goliath. Kara used her heat vision to split the totem, releasing its magic after Nyxly and the Super Friends fought for it. One half of the totem was given to the Super Friends, while the other was given to Nyxly.
Kara had to pass a Gauntlet test in order to take control of the Courage Totem. She had to confront the fact that she lacked actual guts at the time. When Nyxly was able to be vulnerable and tell her brother how much he wounded her when he deceived her, she passed her test. Because of the people touched by the totem, chaos occurred in National City. Kara enabled Nyxly to reclaim her half of the Courage Totem in order to restore order to the city. As a result, Kara and Nyxly developed a psychic connection.
