Fans of the live-action Netflix show ONE PIECE will have to wait a little longer for the next part of the Straw Hat Pirates’ story. After months of guesswork, the official date for Season 2 of ONE PIECE has finally been set. The new season is now set to premiere in 2026, as revealed during Netflix’s Tudum fan event.
The first season, which debuted in August 2023, introduced audiences to Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy) and his growing crew — including Jacob Romero Gibson as sharpshooter Usopp, Emily Rudd as navigator Nami, Mackenyu Arata as swordsman Roronoa Zoro, and Taz Skylar as cook Sanji. In Season 2, all five actors will return to reprise their roles, and the Straw Hats will welcome new faces to their crew along the way.
Production for Season 2 began in June 2024 and officially wrapped filming in February 2025. Though the original plan was to release the second season by late 2025, the amount of visual effects required — especially to bring Luffy’s Gum-Gum powers to life — made that timeline difficult. The new 2026 release window allows the creators to complete post-production without rushing.
The cast got together at the Tudum event to celebrate the end of filming and give fans a sneak peek at what to expect in the next season. One of the best parts of the presentation was when one of the show’s most beloved characters, Tony Tony Chopper, was revealed to the crowd as a big surprise. Chopper will be played by Mikaela Hoover.
Chopper is a blue-nosed reindeer who ate the Human-Human Fruit, giving him human traits and speech. He’s kind, emotional, a skilled doctor, and fiercely loyal to the Straw Hats. But don’t call him a raccoon — he’s a reindeer!
The character was brought to life using CGI by Framestore, based on Eiichiro Oda’s original manga design.
Chopper first appeared in the One Piece manga in 2000 and in the anime in 2001. (Chapter 134 and anime episode 81). Since then, he’s starred in spin-offs like Chopperman and even had his own Tamagotchi (Choppertchi). He’s also the star of the spin-off Chopperman and a Tamagotchi called Choppertchi.
With fans and celebs like Jamie Lee Curtis, Masashi Kishimoto, and Jimin from BTS loving Chopper, his arrival is one of the most exciting parts of Season 2.
While Netflix did not give an exact month or date, they assured viewers that the series would return sometime in 2026. It’s a longer wait than expected, but fans can rest assured that the creative team is focused on delivering high-quality storytelling and effects.
Season 2 will cover key story arcs from the original manga and anime, including Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, and Little Garden. These arcs mark a major shift in the Straw Hats’ journey as they head toward the Grand Line.
Despite the longer gap between seasons — nearly three years since Season 1 — there’s already hope for quicker turnarounds in the future. ONE PIECE Season 3 is already being discussed and is expected to enter production in 2025, even before Season 2 hits the screen. That’s good news for fans eager to follow the crew through the Arabasta Saga, which is expected to be the focus of the third season.
In the television business, delays like this have become common. Fans of Stranger Things, The Last of Us, and House of the Dragon have also had to wait a long time between seasons because of the need for high-end production and visual effects.
Still, the anticipation only builds excitement. For fans of the Straw Hats, the adventure is far from over — it’s just on pause for now.
