The eighth episode titled “The Lord of the Tides”, of House of the Dragon introduces the most recent cast changes. After five episodes of setup, the sixth episode of House of the Dragon contained a 10-year time leap, bringing the multi-generational drama closer to the Dance of the Dragons – a war of succession. Major characters were also recast as a result of the time jump, notably Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Alicent, who stand for opposing sides in the escalating conflict. Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke took the place of Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, two fan favorites.
Rhaenyra had Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey after the 10-year time jump. Aegon, Aemond, and Helaena are Alicent and King Viserys’ offspring. Daemon and Laena had twin children, Baela and Rhaena, but the mother dies trying to conceive a third. In House of the Dragon episode 7, Aemond claims Laena’s dragon Vhagar as his own, which her daughters dispute. Luke cuts Aemond’s eye during a brawl. Alicent’s demand for an eye and Viserys’ refusal clearly define the greens and blacks. In episode 8, the story jumps ahead six years, which means that the fighting Targaryen kids have grown up a bit.
