Dwyane Wade Discusses the Possibility of Returning to Basketball

Is Dwyane Wade making a comeback to basketball?! The 40-year-old former NBA player appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Season 19 Episode 153 on Monday for an interview (April 25).

Dwyane Wade discussed the prospect of coming out of retirement and returning to the NBA in his interview. When Ellen inquired if Dwyane will return to the NBA, he replied, “Absolutely not.”  “I feel better when I wake up in the morning, my knees not hurting, my hips not hurting. I’m not stressing as much. It’s stressful tryna be good all the time,” Dwyane stated. “I’m 40 years old, and I’m not the same.”  After a 16-year NBA career, Dwyane Wade announced his retirement in 2019.

Wade was born on January 17, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, to JoLinda and Dwyane Wade Sr. as the second of two children. Wade credits his grandma for the unusual spelling of his and his father’s first names. When JoLinda married Wade’s father, she already had two children with him: Dwyane and his older sister Tragil. Wade’s parents divorced when he was four months old. Wade recalled his early years on Chicago’s South Side as tough.

JoLinda was given custody of the two children when his parents split. JoLinda battled drug addiction and spent time in and out of jail. Tragil duped her brother by thinking they were going to the movies when he was eight years old, only to take him to live with his father and stepmother. Wade saw his mother on occasion until his father relocated the family to Robbins, Illinois, where Wade would not see her for another two years. He avoided the temptations of drugs and gangs by focusing on basketball and football. Tragil, Wade said, was the one who pointed him in the correct way the most.

Dwyane Wade played for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for most of his 16-year career, winning three NBA championships while doing so. He was a 13-time NBA All-Star, an 8-time member of the All-NBA Team, and a 3-time member of the All-Defensive Team. Wade also holds the record for most points, games, assists, steals, shots made, and shots taken in Miami’s history.    Wade is presently hosting The Cube’s American adaptation.  Wade was picked fifth overall in the 2003 NBA draught by the Heat after a stellar college basketball career with the Marquette Golden Eagles, which included leading the team to the Final Four in 2003. Wade was voted the 2006 NBA Finals MVP after leading the Heat to their first NBA Championship in his third season.

Dwyane Wade led the United States men’s basketball team, also known as the “Redeem Team,” in scoring and helped them win the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Wade led the league in scoring and won his first NBA scoring title in the 2008–09 season. In 2010, Wade was named MVP of the NBA All-Star Game. Wade, along with LeBron James and Chris Bosh, led Miami to four straight NBA Finals from 2011 to 2014, including back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. He left Miami for a brief period in 2016–2018 to play for the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers before returning to Miami to end his career and retire with the Heat in 2019. In 2021, he acquired a partial ownership share in the Utah Jazz. Wade was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in October 2021, recognising him as one of the league’s best players of all time.
