Will Dante Officer Torres Return to ‘Chicago PD’ as a Recurring Character?

Halstead was in a unique position in last week’s new episode of “Chicago PD,” taking a young recruit under his wing. The junior cop, Dante Torres, put the senior officer to the test. He was continually questioning Halstead’s authority, defying commands, and creating suspicion after the Intelligence Unit discovered his ties to local gangs during the episode. Overall, Torres received a lot of attention in episode 18, “New Guard.” With his plot taking up so much screen time on “Chicago PD. fans are asking if the new recruit will become a permanent, or at the very least recurring, member of the District 21 team. Finally, the newcomer showed some actual promise, prompting some to speculate that he would soon become a regular member of the team. Fans of the Chicago universe know that the franchise’s writers rarely cast the same actor in multiple minor roles. In most cases, minor roles lead to larger roles.

Officer Torres has previously been seen in the Chicago Police Department

Will Dante Officer Torres Return to 'Chicago PD' as a Recurring Character

Benjamin Levy Aguilar had a brief role as a suspect, Franco Chavaro, before being introduced as the young officer’s recruit Dante Torres last week episode 18. Given the character’s extensive screen time last week, it would be remarkable for “Chicago PD” writers to just write him out of the plot, as Fansided points out. Furthermore, fans have begun to suspect Torres’ return to the series, as he previously appeared in a tiny part on “Chicago PD.” Benjamin Levy Aguilar also appeared on-screen in a 2019 episode of “Chicago P.D.” before taking up the role of Torres. He appeared in “Chicago P.D.” Season 7 Episode 1.

Detectives Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) try to prove Hank Voight’s innocence in the assassination of Chicago mayoral candidate Brian Kelton in this episode (John C. McGinley). Early on in the inquiry, detectives establish that the gun used in the homicide belongs to Franco Chavaro (Benjamin Levy Aguilar ). Things aren’t looking good for Chavaro at this point in the process, to put it bluntly. However, it is later discovered that Chavaro’s gun was stolen by a Chicago police officer during a previous search. As a result, Chavaro would not have had access to the pistol at the time of the murder, and he is no longer a suspect in the case.

While Chavaro hasn’t been seen on the show since Season 7, it’s worth noting that the show’s creative team was willing to introduce a second character, also played by Aguilar, after only two seasons away. Aguilar isn’t the only actor who has played two personas on “Chicago P.D.” Lt. Bruce Belden was played by Kurt Naebig in the first season of the show, and he returned in Season 9 as a completely different character. As we come closer to the season 9 finale, we’ll hopefully see more of Dante Torres.

Chicago PD Season 9 Episode 18 Recap

Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) agrees to assist with the new recruits. Since his arrival on the force, the department’s rules on credit scores and/or background checks have been relaxed. Halstead is wary about the types of recruits he’ll have to deal with as a favor to Trudy, but he persists (Amy Morton). Halstead is teamed with Dante Torres, a rookie (Dennis Garcia). He’s a quiet child who will either turn out to be a good cop or a complete maniac. That’s what Trudy claims, at least. Halstead and Torres notice a gunshot while driving around and decide to interfere. Torres is told by Halstead to sit back while he follows the gunman, but the rookie ignores him and joins in the hunt. Torres apologizes for not obeying directions, and Halstead correctly chastises him. When he sits in on Halstead’s questioning, he has an opportunity to redeem himself, but he once again oversteps his bounds by speaking up and asking questions when he isn’t allowed to.

Torres’ instincts, however, prove to be true. He is able to persuade the criminal to reveal his gang links and even persuade him to turn on his source. The rest of the team is taken aback by Torres’ speed and efficiency, but they rally behind him. As the mission progresses, Voight (Jason Beghe) and the squad learn about the organization. They’ve been advised that a gang member may be infiltrating them in order to gain access to their operations (and their weapons). Torres is, of course, the prime suspect. They send Torres in, suspicious of his motives, and he appears to prove himself when the job goes wrong and he kills one of the gang members. Voight, on the other hand, is wary. He questions the rookie about his background, and it is discovered that Torres served time in juvenile detention for forcing his stepfather into a wheelchair. The stepfather had been abusing his mother, and despite his attempts to notify the cops, no one showed up. Torres became a cop in order to protect and serve, and the episode concludes on a sorrowful note, but one that suggests Torres will be back.
