Better Call Saul season 6 episode 10 offered viewers their first look at the groundbreaking actress/comedian Carol Burnett in her role as a guest star on an episode of the AMC sitcom Better Call Saul. Jeff’s elderly mother Marion is a slightly cynical and fiercely independent who meets Gene Takovic on her walk home from the grocery store after suddenly being prevented from climbing a curb by a crater in the ice. When Gene “helps” Marion, he completely deactivates her chair while placing notices claiming that he has lost his dog, Nippy. Jimmy/Saul/Gene is as endearing as ever, and soon Marion is giggling over a bottle of peach schnapps with him at her kitchen table.
As Marian was Jeff’s mother. Gene gives a perplexed Jeff a smug grin. It became immediately apparent at that point that he intended to include her in the solution to the problem he was having. Simply put, he wanted to discover a way to communicate with Jeff and understand where Jeff’s vulnerabilities lay. It would appear that her best guess was correct in assuming that this individual’s true desire was to take part in “the game,” or some other activity in which he believed he could succeed.
The following step in the overall plan. Having the opportunity to form friendships with a few of the security guards, among which was Parks and Recreation’s Jim O’Heir. In order to guarantee that Jeff would be able to carry out the deed, he wanted to make certain that he had a solid understanding of the surveillance equipment. He did it, but with a catch somewhere along the way.
