“What If…?” Season 2 Episode 4 Recap: Ending Explained!

Marvel’s “What If…?” Season 2 Episode 4, titled “What If… Iron Man Crashed Into the Grandmaster?” takes us to an alternate universe with universe-altering consequences.

This episode, which has parts of both Season 1 and new stories, is a big step forward in the continued stories of the Guardians of the Multiverse. The Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright, tells us about this cosmic story, but the main focus is on Gamora’s rise to fame in the Guardians and the strange events that connect her fate to Tony Stark’s.

In this one-of-a-kind universe, Tony Stark is stuck on Sakaar after safely deflecting a nuclear bomb during the Battle of New York. The voice of the Grandmaster, Jeff Goldblum, greets Tony as the “Metal Mojo Man,” starting a plot that reminds me of Thor: Ragnarok. It’s a great episode of the “What If…” series because it has a great mix of humor, action, and surprising partnerships. tvacute goes over the most important parts of Episode 4, including the characters, the plot twists, and the powerful endings that make fans want more.

“What If…?” Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

At the start of the show, the Watcher reminds us of the Guardians of the Multiverse, a group of heroes who work together to fight Ultron. The story now centers on Gamora’s beginnings in Tony Stark’s world. Tony is stuck in Sakaar and can’t get back home. The Grandmaster won’t let him because he wants to celebrate, which causes a chaotic race in the battlefield. This makes it possible for Gamora to show up, driven by a strong desire to get back at Tony Stark.

Tony, Gamora, and Korg, who were not supposed to be together, end up in a room with only one bed. This creates a dynamic that goes beyond typical romance tropes. As Gamora tries to kill Tony as part of her mission, the show takes turns that no one saw coming, mixing humor and tension in a way that works perfectly. It becomes clear that Gamora is Thanos’s daughter, which adds to the tension. Tony’s realization of his unintended part in Thanos’s plan sets the stage for a unique character arc.

There are both physical and figurative explosions as Gamora goes after Tony. The Grandmaster orders that the Earth hero be captured. Tony’s fight with Gamora is a turning point that shows how complicated their characters are. The next plot, which involves a race to control Sakaar and a plan to face Thanos, shows how the episode has a good mix of action and character growth.

“What If…?” Season 2 Episode 4: Ending Explained!

Tony Stark challenges the Grandmaster to a race for control of Sakaar, which is what Episode 4 is all about. The show that follows is like Mad Max meets Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road, and it brings together many characters, such as Valkyrie and Korg. Tony’s efforts to convince Gamora to go against Thanos’s will give the action-packed scene more emotional depth.

Tony barely beats the Grandmaster at the end of the race, but the win takes an unexpected turn when Topaz’s melting stick steps in and turns the Grandmaster into a gooey mess. Valkyrie turns out to be the ruler of Sakaar, which adds a bit of surprise to the story. Tony was planning to go home to Pepper, but things take an unexpected turn when Gamora, who seems to have changed her mind, takes him to meet Thanos.

In the last few seconds of Episode 4, Tony and Gamora work together to use Topaz’s melted stick to fight Thanos. This sudden alliance shows how the characters are changing and sets the stage for future stories. The Watcher says that this is Gamora’s story of how she became a Guardian of the Multiverse, but the story is mostly told from Tony’s point of view, which makes the main idea more complicated.

In the scene during the credits, the Grandmaster is shown to be living even though he has been defeated, hinting at what might happen next. The episode’s ending leaves viewers curious about the unanswered issues and eager to see what happens in later episodes because of Gamora and Tony’s actions.
