The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4: Ellie, Dina Revelations Explained

Before THE LAST OF US SEASON 2 EPISODE 4, it was clear that a big event was going to happen. The preview even hinted at major emotional turning points for both Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced). What we didn’t expect was for this episode to contain not one but two huge revelations that will determine the next part of their journey.

ELLIE REVEALS THE TRUTH ABOUT HER IMMUNITY

The first reveal happened during a tense fight between Ellie and Dina in a Seattle building that was falling apart. It looked like Ellie got bit in the chaos. She quickly fought off the infected, but Dina, who was scared and upset, saw the bite mark on Ellie’s arm.

Ellie had to tell them the truth: she’s immune.

The shock hit Dina. At first, she couldn’t believe it, which is understandable in a world where getting an infection means death. But as the minutes went by and Ellie stayed fine, Dina began to believe that Ellie was telling the truth. Ellie said she had been bitten many years ago and never turned. She also said that Joel had told her she was “the cure,” which Ellie has felt guilty about and carried around with her since he died.

Not only was this a big reveal for Dina, but it was also a way for Ellie, who rarely lets her guard down, to let off steam. To say that in a place full of death was an honest act of hope and pain. Dina was moved to tears, so she only said, “I believe you.”

The show wasn’t over yet, though. Ellie and Dina found safety in a partially collapsed underground tunnel station after just barely avoiding the infected. It was here that Dina told everyone the big news: she’s pregnant.

It wasn’t a surprise when they told us. Earlier in the episode, there were signs: Dina looked sick, she hesitated when fighting, and she claimed to be sick when she left a store. Ellie saw her but didn’t ask her about it.

Dina finally told the truth in this quiet moment underground. She took some pregnancy tests that she found in an empty pharmacy, and they all showed that she was pregnant. Ellie was shocked by the news. Her face showed that she was shocked, confused, and scared.

She didn’t know what to say—how could she? The thought of adding a child to a world that is always on fire is too much to handle. Dina said she hadn’t planned to say anything yet, but after almost dying, she knew she couldn’t keep it a secret any longer. But In the end of episode, Ellie, embracing the moment, declares, “I want it with you,” her playful claim to being a “dad” drawing a laugh.

This shows how much she trusts Ellie as well. It wasn’t just about staying alive; it was also about love, a future, and being ready to face what comes next together.

IN THE LONG TERM, WHAT THESE NEWS MEAN

It all changed after both of these confessions. Not many people used to know about Ellie’s immunity, but now Dina knows about it too. It changes the way they trust each other. It also brings up the idea that Ellie’s immunity might still be important, even though the Fireflies gave up on that idea.

At the same time, Dina’s pregnancy makes their journey even more important and dangerous. She’s not just trying to stay alive anymore; she’s also trying to protect a life that’s growing inside her. Even though Ellie is hurt and angry, she now has someone else to think about besides getting revenge.

At the end of the episode, Ellie and Dina hear the name “Nora” on a WLF radio. This is the next step they need to take to find Abby, the woman who killed Joel. The seed is planted, but they don’t act right away. With these new facts, they’re not only driven by pain, but also by a sense of purpose and a bond that was already weak but has grown stronger.
