Ellie’s mom was friends with a woman named Marlene, but we don’t get to encounter her or understand how she died, but we know this through letters and other memorabilia. It must have some meaning or purpose. There is no room for negotiation here. What we begin, we see through to completion. We’re nearing the end of this section of Joel and Ellie’s story, and from the looks of the shots we’ve seen of them dodging a smoke bomb and Joel firing at an unknown assailant in the hospital, it’s possible that this won’t be the best ending for the couple. Is this a real possibility, or will this turn out to be another false lead? Those who have played the game before know how divisive and impactful the conclusion will be. Even if you haven’t seen the previous episodes, you should go into the season finale prepared with a box of tissues because you will need them for the emotional climax.
