The Riverdale Journey from Beginning to Now
Since 2017, Riverdale on the CW has been concocting bizarre, yet satisfyingly frightening, plots involving serial killers, mobsters, and old family curses. Loosely based on the Archie comics which gained popularity in the 1940s and 50s, the series brings recognized characters, like Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead, to life in a subversive and dark teen drama. Seasons 1 through 4 were set in high school, with the final season taking place seven years later when Archie and his friends had reunited in their hometown after a seven-year hiatus. This season ushers in new adversaries as well as familiar faces. The series regular villain Hiram Lodge (played by Mark Consuelos) officially quit the show in the season 5 finale, marking the end of an era. Percival Pickens (Chris O’Shea), a mystery visitor, has arrived to stir up the ghostly dust. And then the sixth season featured an official crossover with Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, with Sabrina herself (Kiernan Shipka) arriving to assist Cheryl Blossom in crafting a curse on her friends-turned-enemies.

Jughead visits Archie to inform him that he agrees with him. Busing the homeless out of Riverdale is not a viable option. Alice meets with Percival to talk about Riverdale’s problems. Britta enters Abigail’s dreamscape, where Cheryl is tormented by a hallucination of Penelope, in an attempt to entice Abigail’s spirit out of Cheryl’s body.
