Jon Favreau Confirms Mandalorian Season 4 Development

Jon Favreau confirms he’s writing The Mandalorian season 4 scripts before season 3’s release.

The Mandalorian’s 2019 debut led to a well-received season 2 and a highly anticipated season 3. Favreau and executive producer partner Dave Filoni are expanding the Mandalorian universe. The Mandalorian has spawned spin-offs including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. As Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) adventure expands, so does his appeal to viewers. Season 1 of the series presented Din’s character and travels on planets including Nevarro, Sorgan, and Tatooine. With his world established—and well-loved, thanks to Grogu—season 2 included more planets and characters like Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). Season 3 is projected to be greater than season 2, with more action and shocks, making Din’s journey more compelling, emotional, and expansive.

Now, Jon Favreau has stated that Din’s tale won’t end with season 3. Jon Favreau says that The Mandalorian season 4 is in development. The producer explained the benefits of working in television over the film at Star Wars Celebration. He highlighted not having to rush Din’s story in a set time range, which led to the huge surprise. Favreau said he allows Filoni’s Ahsoka work to affect “the screenplay for [The Mandalorian] season 4.” Quote from Favreau below.

“With television, we’re very lucky that we don’t have to rush things through into an hour-and-a-half, two hours. We get to tell stories slowly. So now, as Dave [Filoni]’s doing Ahsoka, it’s very much informing the writing that I’m doing for [The Mandalorian] Season 4. It becomes – how should I put it – more precise.” – www.cinemablend.com

This is the first formal confirmation of The Mandalorian season 4, previously mentioned by Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon). Favreau also revealed that Din could appear in Ahsoka and vice versa. Season 3’s investigation of Mandalore may not be the end for Din and his fellow Mandalorians, as Favreau cites the “fertile ground” for slower-paced stories like this. With much about season 3 unclear, it’s hard to predict where season 4 will go as Favreau develops it.
