Is Netflix’s Under the Queen’s Umbrella a True Story?

The story that “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” is based on is not true. Although the series tells a funny story set in a well-known time in Korean history, neither the characters nor the events are based on actual people. That is not to suggest, however, that the show is wholly devoid of genuine components. Kim Hyung-Sik directed most of the episodes while Park Ba-Ra wrote the majority of the episodes. In reality, it elegantly illuminates how the education system operated for the upper classes of society and the expectations placed on women throughout the time period of the story. The way people regarded Queen Im Hwa-Ryeong during her life is evident in the changes in her behavior. The formerly gentle and calm woman underwent a change to resist the constant pressure to participate in a verbal fight. However, the relationships between the various characters in the show contain a number of historical mistakes.

The royal family is portrayed in a way that does not authentically reflect the social mores that would have prevailed during the Joseon era. Although the show’s dark humor probably contributed to the amount of slander and name-calling featured in it, the character’s actions in the show are more in line with what people in the modern world would do in the same situation. In other words, the show combines modern social norms with historical backdrops to give viewers a singular experience. In modern society, the concepts of privilege and gender expectations also make sense. Even if the plot of “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” is entirely fictitious, readers are nevertheless able to connect with the diverse cast of characters. This is probably because the challenges portrayed in the show are so relatable. Furthermore, the comedy of the program makes it impossible not to cheer for your favorites as the happy ending unfolds.
