In House of the Dragon, Why did Larys Strong kill Lord Lyonel and Ser Harwin?

The prequel HBO series House of the Dragon” is set roughly two centuries before “Game of Thrones.” It chronicles the tale of the violent succession conflict between two factions of the reigning Targaryen family, often known as the dance of the dragons, and is based in part on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Ten years have transpired between the series’ episodes 5 and 6.  As if a 10-year jump in time wasn’t enough, the House of the Dragon episode 6 also gave us a new level ofthe  bad guy in the form of Larys Strong (Matthew Needham). After gaining Queen Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke, Emily Carey) trust in the fifth episode of the season, he is now one of her most trusted advisors, as seen in the sixth episode. The Queen’s relationship with her stepdaughter and former friend Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy, Milly Alcock) is at its worst ever, and she wishes she had more friends at court. When Larys shows up, he decides to do something so cruel that even Queen Alicent is shocked to the core when he tells her what he did: he kills his own family.

In HOTD episode 6, “The Princess and the Queen,” several of the Strongs’ prophecies are fulfilled, and the identity of the arsonist who killed the Lord of Harrenhal and his heir is revealed for the first time since George R. R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. We (tvaccute.com)have answers for you if the events in the sixth episode of “House of the Dragon” have you wondering why did he decide to kill Lord Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes) and Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr), who are both members of his own family? Spoiler alert for episode 6 of House of the Dragon.

In House of the Dragon, why did Larys Strong kill Lord Lyonel Strong and Ser Harwin Strong?

house of-the dragon

Larys Strong killed his own father and brother for a number of reasons. First of all, Queen Alicent Hightower made it clear that she missed her father, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who was the Hand of the King before Lord Lyonel. Larys brought the Queen and Lord Lyonel closer together by removing Lord Lyonel from his position… for good. He did this because he wanted to please the Queen and get closer to her while also keeping a hold on her. Second, killing Lord Lyonel also makes it possible for someone to take over the seat of Harrenhal. This is also why Larys would have a reason to kill his older brother, Ser Harwin, who is his father’s heir and would have gotten the big castle and the land around it if he lived. Also, Ser Harwin was known to be Princess Rhaenyra’s lover and the likely father of her three sons. He was also a loyal supporter of the Princess, so killing him took away another possible enemy of Alicent’s. All of these things wouldn’t matter, though, if Larys loved his father and brother, which he clearly doesn’t.

The show hasn’t shown a lot of the Strong family’s relationships, but scenes from the past have shown that they all get along fine. This probably shows that Larys is ruthless and has a bit of a Machiavellian streak. He is a real player in the game of thrones and is willing to do whatever it takes to win and move up in the ranks. Many fans have already compared Larys to the notorious Lord Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen). Like Lord Baelish, Larys has spies and knows everything that is going on in King’s Landing. Larys also hides what his real goals are, but it’s clear that self-interest is what drives him the most. We will have to see if Larys lasts as long as Littlefinger did in the series.

In the book Fire and Blood, who killed Lord Lyonel Strong and Ser Harwin Strong?

In the book Fire and Blood, the person who killed Lord Lyonel Strong and Ser Harwin Strong is never named. Larys Strong is brought up as a suspect for many of the same reasons he is on the show. But there are a few other people who have been named as possible killers. Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), who might have wanted to get rid of Ser Harwin as a possible rival for Princess Rhaenyra’s heart, is a possible killer. Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), who may have wanted to get back at Ser Harwin for making his son Ser Laenor Velaryon look bad by being cuckolded, is another possible suspect. Lastly, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), who wanted to stop the rumors about his grandchildren by Rhaenyra being bastards fathered by Ser Harwin, is thought to be a suspect. The show has decided that Larys is to blame and to be honest, it makes the most sense and fits with who he is.
