Keep an eye out for how Alicent and Rhaenyra’s clothes alter as they get older, House of the Dragon’s costume designer has warned fans.
One image, in particular, has fans gazing far into the future, when Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy will assume the roles of Alicent and Rhaenyra, respectively. The image that has everyone’s attention is one of Alicent wearing a royal green gown; green will play a very, very significant role in House of the Dragon. Viserys the Great will pass away in the next few episodes, probably in the next five. The kingdoms will be divided into two “teams”: the Greens and the Blacks, with Alicent pushing for Aegon to succeed her as heir and Rhaenyra wanting to take her place as heir.
The name of Alicent and Aegon’s squad in the impending civil war, the Dance of Dragons, will finally be decided by that green dress, albeit it won’t be for a few more episodes. Rhaenyra hasn’t yet donned the fabled black dress that gives her followers their collective name, but you can be sure that she will do so soon probably when Emma D’Arcy assumes the role. The Green Council (helmed by Clare Kilner, who also directed episode 4) and The Black Queen are scheduled to be the final two episodes of the first season. The conflict in season two, which was renewed a week after House of the Dragon’s debut last month, will be established in these two episodes.
Episode 5 of House of the Dragon will be broadcast on Sunday on HBO and HBO Max in the United States (September 18). At 9:00 ET, it will air.
