HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 2 EPISODE 8: ALICENT AND RHAENYRA MEETING EXPLAINED

The second season of House of the Dragon ended with an exciting episode called “The Queen Who Ever Was,” which made fans eager for the third season. The episode may not have had many dragon battles, but it did have a lot of important events for both Team Green and Team Black, and it ended on a dramatic cliffhanger. Here is a quick summary of the episode and the important meeting between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower.

What Happened in the House of the Dragon Season 2 (S2xE8) Finale?

In the beginning of the finale, Ser Tyland Lannister goes to Essos to find more swords for Prince Aemond Targaryen. He is able to get a female captain to agree to give The Greens their armies in exchange for The Step Stones. In King’s Landing, Larys Strong tries to get King Aegon, who is hurt, to run away before Aemond can kill him. Aegon eventually agrees to leave with Larys, even though he didn’t want to at first.

Alicent Hightower is seen calming down a sad Helaena. Aemond, who just burned down a small town with Vhagar, tells Helaena she needs to get on her dragon Dreamfyre and fight. Helaena says no, saying that Aemond will die. This makes Alicent look for a way to get to Dragonstone.

Rhaenyra Targaryen’s dragonseeds are getting used to their new roles on Dragonstone. Rhaenyra says she will make them knights if they are able to tame the dragons and face Vhagar. Her meeting is cut short by a call to Harrenhal because she thinks Daemon might betray her.

At Harrenhal, Daemon keeps building his army and sees Rhaenyra sitting on the throne in a vision from The Song of Ice and Fire. He promises to be loyal to her because he sees her as the rightful ruler.

In another place, Lord Corlys is getting ready to send out his fleet, but a fight with his jerk son Alyn of Hull shows how they feel about each other. During Ser Criston Cole’s short appearance, he has a fight with Alicent’s brother, but in the end, the brother lowers his sword because of Cole’s loyalty. When Rheana goes to the Vale, she finally finds the wild dragon Sheepstealer.

Alicent shows up at Dragonstone in the middle of the night, without any weapons and in a desperate state. She is willing to give up her sons so that she and her daughter can be safe. Armies and dragons are getting ready for war at the end of the episode, which sets the stage for the conflict in Season 3.

What Happened Between Alicent and Rhaenyra?

In the finale, the fight between Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) is a key moment. Alicent’s journey from her past actions, like the symbolic walk into the lake in Season 2 Episode 7, leads to this touching meeting. She risks her life to get to Dragonstone and ask Rhaenyra for help.

In a touching scene, Alicent tells Rhaenyra that she has been lied to by people around her and that her anger at Rhaenyra’s freedom has kept her from seeing the truth. She says she’s sorry for what she did in the past and wants to stay out of the war. Alicent suggests that when Aemond leaves the castle again, she and Helaena will let Rhaenyra’s forces claim the throne. They promise that Aegon, who is still in bed, will not be a problem.

But Rhaenyra wants Aegon’s head to make sure she stays in power as a conqueror. Surprisingly, Alicent agrees to this demand without speaking, showing that she is ready to give up her son to protect herself and Helaena. Alicent walks away at the end of the episode. She is probably getting ready to leave her sons and start a new life with her daughter.

The end of Season 2 sets the stage for a dramatic and intense Season 3, with alliances changing and the threat of war looming large.
