Valerie Hill Vineyard and Winery is considered one of the most haunted locations in the Northern Shenandoah Valley by paranormal enthusiasts. The manor house, which was built by more than two dozen slaves between 1805 and 1807, has been the site of numerous events over the past two centuries, including original owners Peter and Elizabeth Rust hiding mentally impaired nephew Benedict Rust for most of his life in a cramped attic room, a deadly typhoid outbreak that killed numerous slaves, and the home being used to treat wounded Civil War soldiers following the Battle of Cedar Creek on Oct.
When “Ghost Hunters” visited Valerie Hill in August in search of specters, the team also looked for any unmarked graves on the property that might hold the remains of former residents or slaves.
The team’s discoveries will be disclosed in the “Ghost Hunters” episode “A Boy and Buried Secrets” on Saturday.
On Saturday and Sunday evenings, Valerie Hill’s owners, Shawn Steffey and Tyler Newcome will organize special parties where guests can watch the episode while enjoying a four-course meal, wine, a historic presentation by Robinson, and a tour of the manor home. Both days were sold out as of Wednesday morning.
Valerie Hill will soon offer a less expensive option for paranormal aficionados interested in visiting the Marlboro Road property, according to Robinson. Two glasses of wine, a presentation by Robinson, a screening of “A Boy and Buried Secrets,” and a tour of the house are all included in the $50 ticket.
