Bass Reeves Release Date, Cast – Everything Else You Need to Know About

Elsa Dutton’s epic story may have come to a conclusion, but there’s still plenty to learn about the difficult time when the Yellowstone Dutton ranch was being built. In reality, there’s a lot of real-life history to learn about. “Yellowstone” director Taylor Sheridan will continue his popular “1883” franchise at Paramount+ with a focus on one of Oklahoma’s most iconic forgotten heroes.

“The Bass Reeves Story” will be the title of the streaming service’s previously announced series on real-life lawman Bass Reeves will follow the first Black United States Marshal west of the Mississippi, who apprehended over 3,000 criminals. That will place it under Sheridan’s successful show “1883,” which is a prequel to the smash “Yellowstone.”\

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” – Yellowstone Spinoff’s Exciting First Look, Cast and Storyline
Who was Bass Reeves?

Given how 1883 ended, Reeves’ link to the Duttons and their voyage in 1883 is unknown. On their voyage west, James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill) Dutton were followed by the show. They had intended to travel to Oregon, but their plans were derailed when their teenage daughter Elsa (Isabel May) was killed by an arrow while defending her family. She was laid to rest in a valley in Montana, where the Duttons had decided to settle. John, their younger son, became the grandfather of Yellowstone’s John Dutton (Kevin Costner).

Recently, it was reported that the Dutton family narrative would be continued in a new Yellowstone prequel series, 1932, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and set 50 years after the events of 1883. 1932 will most likely follow the Dutton children as they continue their quest to protect the Yellowstone Ranch from those who would seize it.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves, who plays Bass Reeves?

In The Bass Reeves Story, David Oyelowo will play Bass Reeves. He’s 46 now, and in 1883, Reeves would have been around 45. With a few exceptions, Oyelowo has generally played supporting roles, most notably as Martin Luther King, Jr. in Ava DuVernay’s Selma. But J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year, Nash Edgerton’s Gringo, George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky, and his role as Kallus in Star Wars: Rebels are among Oyelowo’s other prominent roles. Oyelowo is also going to act in a revamped remake of The Rocketeer for Disney+, in addition to 1883 season 2. He was nominated the Outstanding Independent Film for his directorial debut ‘The waterman Movie’.

Meanwhile, the Dutton family narrative will continue in other spinoffs including 1932, 6666, and the main Yellowstone series, while 1883: The Bass Reeves Story could be the start of a new anthology, one-off series, or multi-season series based on the real-life lawman.

The Reeves series was originally planned as a standalone for Taylor Sheridan and David Oyelowo, but it has now been incorporated into the Yellowstone universe. We’ll just have to wait and see how it works. Meanwhile, here’s everything we’ve learned thus far.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves Season 2 Release Date

As of right now, there is no release date set for 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. We’ll be sure to update this post as soon as we have more information. Season 5 of Yellowstone will begin on Paramount Network on November 13, and the prequel 1932, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, will launch on Paramount+ in December.

Will Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and the rest of the cast return for Bass Reeves?

It’s difficult to determine whether David Oyelowo’s Bass and Tim McGraw’s James Dutton will meet paths. At present, David is the only member of the cast of 1883: The Bass Reeves Story who has been announced.
