Gary meant to attend Maggie at her IVF appointment, but he becomes ill unexpectedly. Maggie will have to bring her mother, Patricia Bloom, instead. During a doctor’s visit, Maggie unexpectedly sobs at her mother. She becomes concerned that she may not be ready to be a mother after insisting to Gary that she will be able to manage IVF. Patricia Bloom supported her through the ordeal. They have a lovely moment together. Maggie and Gary learn that they were able to save 11 healthy eggs. Patricia later sends Maggie and Gary the newborn clothes. Dr. Anderson then contacts Maggie to inform her that only one embryo has survived.

Maddox (Ash Spencer) tells Rome how difficult it is for their parents to grasp how uncomfortable they have always felt like a girl. They request that Rome talk with their parents, and the instructor understands that their father, Clark Ainsworth (Sebastien Roberts), is the bully. Clark apologizes for being harsh on Rome . Claire (Caroline Cave) and Clark sat down for the parent-teacher conference. The “whole Maddox affair” is a lot for Clark and Claire to take in. Rome refers to Maddox as he/him throughout the conference, which makes the parents uncomfortable. Later, they request that the dean dismiss Rome quickly, claiming that he is the source of the “Maddox crisis.” Meanwhile, Regina discovers that she was unable to surprise Tyrell (Adam Swain). Tyrell later lies to Gina when she inquires about it. Tyrell does not want to go to Yale, but Valley accepts.

Eddie and Anna go away for the weekend. Sophie also observes Eddie (David Giuntoli) and Anna (Erin Karpluk) pack for a weekend getaway. Eddie says during the road journey that he feels traveling together may make or break a relationship. When they go to check into a hotel, the receptionist treats Eddie unfairly because he is in a wheelchair.

Greta can’t believe Katherine kept her girlfriend a secret from Shanice. Katherine also admits to kissing Shanice without telling him she had a girlfriend. Carter (Sam Pancake)  advises Katherine to pursue her relationship with Shanice Williamson. So they meet for lunch, and Shanice thanks Katherine for encouraging her to speak her mind. Katherine decides to accompany Shanice to Miami but changes her mind when she considers how it will affect Greta. When Katherine finds Greta at the animal hospital, she discovers that her pet cat has perished. Julia (Jessica Lindsay), Greta’s wife, reappears and the two share a tender embrace. When Katherine kisses Theo goodnight later, she noticed his bedroom artwork is no longer dinosaur and jungle-themed.

Sophie learns more about Kai (Liana Liberato) and Peter. When Sophie discovers Kai working in a coffee shop, she confesses that she was in love with Peter. She met Peter at a community college lecture and he offered her a scholarship. Kai believed Peter assisted her in improving her piano skills, and the two spent weekends away together. She invited friends over to meet him after the divorce, but Peter freaked out. Sophie learns that Peter visited Kai the night before he died. He did, however, bring a date to see her perform. Kai was so upset that she went to his house to confront him about it. She noticed Anna when she arrived at the house. The episode ended with Eddie and Anna blissfully vacationing together once more.
