What Happened to ‘Shark Week’ Star Stan Waterman’s Eye?

Stan Waterman’s Eye Injury: Shark Week” is an annual programming event on Discovery Channel held during the summer months, dedicated entirely to everything related to sharks – documentaries, educational programs, and special features covering these fascinating marine creatures will all be showcased during this week-long celebration.

Sharks are an extraordinary group of cartilaginous fish that have captured the public’s imagination through their mysterious nature, incredible adaptations, and sometimes fearsome reputation. “Shark Week” aims to both entertain and educate viewers about sharks as integral parts of marine ecosystems.

Stan Waterman, an esteemed underwater filmmaker, photographer, and author, has dedicated much of his life to documenting ocean life. Born in 1923, Waterman is revered as a pioneer of underwater cinematography, playing an invaluable role in encouraging ocean conservation through his works.

Throughout his career, Stan Waterman has produced captivating underwater documentaries and films showcasing marine life, such as sharks. These contributions have helped raise awareness about their beauty and fragility.

In the past, Stan Waterman may have made appearances or contributions during “Shark Week” due to his expertise in underwater filming and passion for marine life. However, I don’t have any information beyond September 2021.

Since its inception, Stan Waterman has been an integral part of Shark Week, and even if you don’t know his identity, you likely recognize him. His unique eye patch has become his trademark look, fascinating his admirers who want to learn the reasons behind its appearance.

How Did Stan Waterman Lose His Eye

How Did Stan Waterman Lose His Eye?

Stan Waterman is best known for his stunning underwater photography and videography. His movies have received five Emmys; Discovery Channel even created a documentary called “The Man Who Loves Sharks.” Interestingly enough, just months after his final dive at 90 in the Cayman Islands, he reached 100 years of age!

Stan is known for wearing an eye patch as one of his signature features, making him instantly recognizable to everyone around him. But why did this occur?

Sorry to break this news to you, but unfortunately, we have been unable to learn much about Stan’s eye injuries. According to Freshers Live, his injury occurred following a diving accident; however, we have been unable to verify this claim.

Although we didn’t capture the part of his 2011 conversation with Talking Scuba host Bob Shoemakers where Stan discussed his eye injury, he did address his eye patch. According to Stan, his daughter paints him a new eye patch every Christmas; on one such patch, she painted “a pair of hooters which sort of represents eyes staring back at each other,” as explained by Stan. Unfortunately, he doesn’t wear that out much in public!

Stan lost an eye while scuba diving; we can only speculate about its cause and source; it seems likely. While we would rather believe that something such as a shark, stingray, or both were involved, perhaps Stan could have accidentally poked himself or simply chose not to reveal the truth because mystery appeals more.

Discovery Channel will kick off Shark Week starting July 23.
