The wait is almost over! After captivating global audiences with its first season, Netflix’s breakout hit Wednesday is returning for a second season. Jenna Ortega will once again step into the iconic role of Wednesday Addams — and this time, the stakes, scares, and storyline promise to be even more intense. With new cast members, chilling plot developments, and a confirmed release date, here’s everything you need to know about Wednesday Season 2.
WHEN IS WEDNESDAY SEASON 2 COMING TO NETFLIX?
Netflix has officially announced the premiere dates for Wednesday Season 2, and true to its name, the new season will drop on a Wednesday. The season will be split into two parts. Part 1 premieres on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, followed by Part 2 on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The announcement came with a teaser trailer that gave fans a glimpse into the darker direction the show is taking.
Jenna Ortega, who leads the cast, also revealed that although filming is wrapped, the work isn’t quite done. In an interview with Collider, she mentioned, “We’re still in the edit. I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago.” She added that even after wrapping up filming, post-production remains intense and ongoing.
HOW MANY EPISODES WILL THERE BE IN SEASON 2?
Much like its first season, Wednesday Season 2 will consist of eight episodes. The premiere episode is titled Here We Woe Again, hinting at a fresh batch of chaos and mystery for Wednesday Addams and the students of Nevermore Academy. Directors for the upcoming season include Tim Burton, Paco Cabezas, and Angela Robinson — names that are sure to bring a distinctive gothic flair to the new episodes.
CAST: WHO’S RETURNING AND WHO’S NEW?
Returning to lead the cast is Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. Fans will also see the return of:
Victor Dorobantu as Thing
Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
Georgie Farmer as Ajax
Moosa Mostafa as Eugene
Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Deputy Santiago
Season 2 will also introduce a host of new faces to the show. Joining the cast are:
Billie Piper as Capri
Joanna Lumley as Grandmama
Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort
Thandiwe Newton, Christopher Lloyd, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Owen Painter, Evie Templeton, Noah Taylor, and Heather Matarazzo in undisclosed roles
Lady Gaga, who will appear in a surprise role
Lady Gaga’s inclusion has sparked fan speculation, especially since her song “Bloody Mary” was famously used by fans during viral dance recreations of Ortega’s choreography in season 1. Ortega has previously expressed excitement at the possibility of Gaga joining the show, saying they could play “two monsters that understand each other.”
One major absence this season will be Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe. The actor will not return for season 2, following public controversy. Ortega referred to his exit as a “weird redirect,” adding that the show will introduce many new characters to balance the change.
FILMING LOCATIONS AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES UPDATES
Production for the new season took place in Ireland, with Netflix confirming the wrap in a behind-the-scenes photo captioned: “Rest in Production. That’s a wrap on Season 2.” This gothic setting promises a new visual backdrop to the eerie happenings of Nevermore Academy and beyond.
Ortega revealed that she once again had to tackle the cello in her role, saying she pulled out “a good portion” of her hair while working on a particularly intense cello scene. Despite the challenges, she’s fully immersed in the role, and fans can expect more elaborate performances from the young actress.
PLOT: WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM SEASON 2?
While Netflix has remained tight-lipped about major plot details, we do know that Wednesday Season 2 picks up after the dramatic events of the season 1 finale. Wednesday Addams will return to Nevermore Academy and continue unraveling the dark secrets of the town and its inhabitants.
The new season leans deeper into the horror genre. Ortega confirmed that there’s an entire episode inspired by classic slasher films. “There are a lot of horror references,” she shared, adding that the team was given more creative freedom this time around, allowing for “bigger, more elaborate sequences.”
A teaser trailer showed Wednesday facing off with Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who appears chained in a psychiatric hospital. This suggests that their tense relationship is far from over and will be a central focus in the upcoming storyline.
Interestingly, romance is taking a back seat in the second season. Ortega stated that Wednesday will not have a love interest this time around. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” she said in a conversation with Variety.
The Addams Family will play a more prominent role this season. Showrunner Miles Millar told TV Line that the creative team wanted to “flesh out” the other members of the Addams household. Notably, Pugsley Addams, played by Isaac Ordonez, will join Nevermore, placing the Addams siblings side-by-side in a brand-new school year of danger and discovery.
FUTURE PLANS FOR WEDNESDAY BEYOND SEASON 2
The creative team behind Wednesday, including co-creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, have long-term plans for the show. Millar confirmed that while only season 2 is currently greenlit, they have storylines mapped out for at least three or four seasons. “You always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters,” Millar said, “and we certainly have a pretty clear runway.”
Although season 3 hasn’t officially been announced, Ortega confirmed that discussions and preparations are already happening behind the scenes. “With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game,” she told Collider. “So, I think that they’re kind of messing around and throwing out ideas.”
The return of Wednesday is shaping up to be bigger, darker, and more intense than its predecessor. With Jenna Ortega back at the helm, an expanded cast, more horror-inspired storytelling, and a confirmed release schedule, fans of the Addams Family universe have plenty to look forward to.
