Toy Story 5: Release Date, Cast, Plot Details & Production Updates

Toy Story 5, the highly anticipated fifth installment in the legendary animated series, has been officially announced by Pixar Animation Studios. Fans of the beloved toys are already very excited about the movie, which is set to come out on June 19, 2026. Toy Story 5 will be directed and written by Andrew Stanton, who also worked on Finding Nemo and WALL-E. It looks like it will be a new take on the world of Woody, Buzz, and their friends.

The fifth movie will come after Toy Story 4 (2019), and it will again be about the toys’ busy lives after their adventure in the fourth movie. Another thing that will be different this time is that the toys will have to navigate a world that is becoming increasingly dominated by technology, particularly digital devices and virtual play. As kids become more dependent on screens, questions of purpose, creativity and loyalty become more important.

Who is in Toy Story 5 cast?

Tom Hanks is back as Woody and Tim Allen is back as Buzz Lightyear in their famous roles. Fans have grown to love these two actors, and they will once again work together to bring the characters to life. Combat Carl will be voiced by Ernie Hudson in Toy Story 5. Carl Weathers left the role and Hudson will take it over. Weathers, who passed away in February 2024 at age 76, originally voiced the character in Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story 4. Anna Faris will also be in the new movie, but her role has not been revealed yet. They will play new characters that will add a fun element of surprise and new energy to the group that everyone loves.

Production is already moving forward behind the scenes at Pixar’s headquarters in Emeryville, which is located in the state of California. Toy Story 5 will not only be able to capture the nostalgic magic of the previous films but it will also push the boundaries of modern animation thanks to the top-tier technology and animation expertise that the studio possesses.  With such a strong team of animators, lighting experts, and effects artists working on the film, Toy Story 5 is shaping up to be a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience for audiences of all ages.

For a long time, people have been talking about making a fifth Toy Story movie. In February 2019, Tim Allen said he would like to come back for a fifth movie—even though Tom Hanks had said that Toy Story 4 would be the last one. Still, there was always the chance for a sequel, and in February 2023, it was confirmed that Toy Story 5 would be made. Around June 2024, Andrew Stanton was confirmed as the director. Soon after, it was also revealed that he was writing the script.

This will be the first Toy Story movie without John Lasseter, who directed the first three movies but quit the series after Toy Story 4. When Lasseter left, the creative direction changed. Now that Stanton is in charge—fans can’t wait to see how the beloved toys will adapt to a world that is changing so quickly.

What is Toy Story 5 about?

As long as Pixar keeps making movies with great stories and cutting-edge animation, Toy Story 5 will carry on the tradition of the previous movies while also exploring new ideas. The movie will look at how toys like Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang fit in a world where technology is becoming more important. It will make you think about their use and importance in a child’s life.

Fans can look forward to Toy Story 5 coming out on June 19, 2026. Stay tuned for more news as the movie’s release date gets closer. Pixar is bringing a new story full of heart, humor, and adventure to the big screen.
