Netflix is bringing another chilling psychological thriller to audiences with THE TRAP, a six-part limited series directed and written by Isabel Kleefeld, who also serves as the creative producer. The series reunites the powerful team behind the International Emmy® Award-winning series Dear Child—producers Tom Spiess and Friederich Oetker, alongside executive producer Oliver Berben.

THE TRAP is based on the novel by Melanie Raabe and is currently being filmed in and around Düsseldorf and Cologne, Germany. The story follows Lisa Konrad, played by Friederike Becht, a successful author who hasn’t stepped outside her home in a decade—not since witnessing the brutal murder of her sister, Anna (played by Josephine Thiesen). Lisa’s life changes when she sees a man on TV who she thinks killed Anna. She is stuck in her trauma.

Lisa comes up with a dangerous plan to get justice. She writes a story based on the murder and plans a book reading to get the suspect to come along. With herself as the bait, she hopes to force a confession or uncover the truth, even if it puts her own safety at risk.

The series dives into themes of grief, isolation, and the blurred line between fiction and reality. With each episode, more secrets and suspects are revealed, making the web of suspicion more complicated. The Trap is a suspenseful mystery that is based on the characters—because almost anyone could be the killer.

Hans Löw plays journalist Robert Lenzen, who gets caught up in Lisa’s plan; Matthias Brandt plays publisher Norbert Rudow, who helps get Lisa’s new story out there—and Malaya Stern Takeda plays Lisa’s loyal assistant Yuma, who is very important to her recovery and mission. Also featured is Miriam Ohlmeyer, who takes on the intriguing role of—a fictional character named Sophie— connected to Lisa’s inner thoughts and the storyline of her novel.

The visual tone of The Trap is crafted by cinematographer Martin Langer, known for his work on Dear Child and Kleo. The haunting and elegant production design is by Cordula Jedamski, while the musical score is composed by Volker Bertelmann, who previously won an Oscar for his score in All Quiet on the Western Front.

The Trap is produced by Constantin Film, a company known for its high-quality, story-rich dramas. With the same award-winning team from Dear Child and a gripping, emotionally intense plot, The Trap is expected to be a major addition to Netflix’s European thriller lineup.

The first look image from the series has already teased the tension and atmosphere that fans of psychological thrillers crave. A release date has yet to be announced, but filming is moving quickly, and anticipation is building.
