The Last Of Us S2 Episode 5 Recap & Review: Ellie And Dina Face Deadly Seraphites In “Feel Her Love”

The shadow of vengeance grows darker in the fifth episode of THE LAST OF US SEASON 2, titled “FEEL HER LOVE,” directed by Stephen Williams and written by Craig Mazin.  As tensions rise between groups and the Cordyceps’s haunting power continues to change, this chapter brings about another big change in the lives of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced), and it also reveals the deepest pain that drives the survivors who are still alive. In one hour, old secrets, religious fanaticism, and new horrors come together to make Ellie’s dangerous path even more dangerous.

Here is a full recap of the episode that goes over its most important parts. As Ellie’s desire for revenge grows, the stakes become much higher, and a scary new form of the Cordyceps infection appears. What is on the other side of the locked door? How far will Ellie go to find Abby?

THE HOSPITAL HORROR: ELISE, HANRAHAN, AND THE BASEMENT

Elise (Hettienne Park)

The episode starts in a tense hospital hallway, where WLF leader Hanrahan (Alanna Ubach) has to get past a line of nervous soldiers. Their attention is fixed on a heavily barricaded door that says “stairwell basement access.” Hanrahan meets Elise (Hettienne Park), a soldier who has to make a hard choice. Elise says that her team’s job was to keep the hospital safe and get rid of all the infected people who were there. It was thought that the basement, where the first Cordyceps patients were treated in 2003, would be a dangerous place. Leon, her best man, was sent to check out the lower levels. It was much worse than they thought they would find.

Leon called back over the radio, his voice filled with panic as he struggled to breathe. “It’s in the air,” he gasped, revealing a scary truth: the Cordyceps infection has changed into a threat that can be spread through the air. Leon hadn’t been bitten yet but the spores were already there. Since Elise had no choice but to act, she locked the doors to the B1 and B2 levels—trapping her team inside—including her son Leon, to stop the spread. No one has been able to get away or get sick since then. Feeling scared but determined, Hanrahan promises to keep the event secret and thanks Elise for her service. As she leaves, she says she’s sorry for Leon’s death, which is a heartbreaking turn of events that shows how hard it is to survive.

BACK AT THE THEATER: ELLIE AND DINA PLAN THEIR MOVE

After Day One, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina are stuck in an empty theater in Seattle (Day Two). Ellie can’t take her mind off of her mission to find Abby (Kaitlyn Dever)  , the woman who killed Joel. Ellie walks around the stage of the theater while Dina listens to WLF radio chatter to piece together clues about where their enemies are. She finds an old acoustic guitar with strings that are still tight after all these years. She starts to sing as she plays the first few chords of Pearl Jam’s “Future Days” but she stops quickly as her mind wanders to Joel. The quiet moment makes her think of her grief, which is a wound that drives her every step.

A plan is developed as a result of Dina’s research: in order to get to the hospital where Nora (Tati Gabrielle), a member of Abby’s group, is located, they will have to travel through a large building that is not being patrolled and is most likely infested with infected people. Ellie laughs at the WLF’s careless radio broadcasts and calls them cocky after finding out about a massacre at a news station. Dina, on the other hand, says that the Seraphites, the WLF’s enemies, don’t use technology, which lets the WLF speak freely. Today, Ellie and Dina planned their route and are now ready to face the dangers that lie ahead.

SERAPHITE THREATS AND EMOTIONAL REVELATIONS

As they walk through Seattle’s empty streets, they come across a mural of the Seraphite Prophet that says “Feel Her Love.” A group of dead Seraphites is lying nearby under an insult that says “feel this, bitch.” Dina is scared by what she sees, which makes Ellie wonder if she should keep going. Dina, determined, tells a scary story from her Santa Fe childhood. She saw a raider kill her mother and sister when she was eight years old. When she had a gun, she killed the attacker, which made her stronger. It’s her promise to Ellie that she will always be there for her, even if it costs her everything. Ellie, moved by Dina’s loyalty, decides to keep going, her resolve stronger.

Dina’s part in this episode shows how strong she is and how much she loves Ellie. Even though she is scared, she keeps going, dealing with the physical and emotional pain of their journey. The scars she has from the raider show in her story, but her love for Ellie shines through. She makes fun of Ellie in the theater for shooting without thinking, calling her “a bit crazy” but also saying that’s one reason she loves her. Ellie is caught off guard by Dina’s confession, and before she can say anything, she brushes it off with a “I know.” The emotional center of the episode is their bond, which is both soft and tough.

As they break into the unguarded building at night, Dina’s carefulness stands in contrast to Ellie’s carelessness. She says that shooting should only be done as a last resort and tells Ellie to run away from infected people instead of fighting them. She is an important partner because she is smart and caring, but as the dangers rise, it becomes clear that she is physically and emotionally weak.

A DEADLY ENCOUNTER – THE INFECTED: A NEW BREED OF TERROR

At first glance, the unattended building marked “Membronics” looks surprisingly safe. Since the spotlights are too high to see them, Ellie and Dina move slowly, knowing that infected may be inside. They run into a few stray clickers, but Dina’s warning to stay out of gunfire helps them stay hidden. Unfortunately, things get worse when they find a “smart” infected like the one Ellie faced in Episode 1 in a supermarket. These infected are smart and can flank their prey. Soon, a swarm forms around them.

Ellie tells Dina to go hide in a caged area until she can defend herself while she distracts the infected. Dina is running out of bullets and is fighting very hard as the infected claw at the cage. Ellie is about to die because of the crowd, but then gunfire breaks out. After following them from Jackson, Jesse (Young Mazino) saves both of them. The three people get out of the building, but WLF spotlights see them. When Jesse leads them to a nearby park, the WLF soldiers stop chasing them for some reason.

When Jesse shows up, things change. He says that he and Tommy snuck out of Jackson to keep Ellie and Dina safe, even though they knew they were in too deep. After they split up, Jesse used a map they left behind to find the girls and follow them to the theater. His plan is to meet up with Tommy at the theater and then go back to Jackson, but Ellie doesn’t want to go with him because she is obsessed with getting revenge and doesn’t want to be practical. Jesse brings a new dynamic to the group, and his loyalty and resourcefulness make it more likely that they will survive.

THE BRUTAL RITUAL OF THE SERAPHITES

The group hears strange whistling in the park, which is a sign of the Seraphites. While hiding in the bushes, they see a scary scene: a group of Seraphites with torches are getting ready to kill a captured WLF soldier. The soldier begs for his life, saying he knows what Isaac (Jeffrey Wright) is planning, but the leader of the Seraphites tells him he is “nested in sin” and sets him free. Citing their Prophet, the leader cuts the soldier open with a sickle and lifts him into the air while his followers chant. The ritual is a stark reminder of how cruel the Seraphites were.

A Seraphite arrow hits Dina in the leg as the group tries to stay hidden. Ellie gets the attackers’ attention, which lets Jesse carry Dina to safety. She gets away from the Seraphites and comes out of the park, where she can see the hospital. She has to decide between going after her goal and checking on Dina. She decides to go after her goal and sneaks into the hospital past WLF guards and their dogs.

ELLIE FACES NORA

Inside the hospital, Ellie quickly finds Nora, holds her at gunpoint, and asks her where Abby is. Nora says she doesn’t know, and she warns that killing her will bring all WLF soldiers to her. Ellie says that Nora will still be dead, which doesn’t bother her. In her taunts at Ellie, Nora’s tone changes from fake sympathy to anger as she says that Joel’s screams bother her and that he “got what he deserved.” She jumps at the chance and throws bleach and rags at Ellie before running away.

Ellie follows them and has to deal with the chaos in the hospital while WLF soldiers shoot at her. When Nora feels trapped, she jumps into an elevator shaft and crashes into the B2 level, which is the same spore-filled basement from the beginning of the episode. Ellie goes with him and enters a scary world covered in Cordyceps and filled with spores in the air. She walks by bodies that have been fused to the fungus, including one that looks like Leon and is breathing out clouds of deadly particles. It is now clear that the infection is spreading through the ‘AIR’.

BASEMENT REVELATIONS: THE AIRBORNE THREAT

the last of us eps 205 Nora dead-

At the end of a hallway, Ellie discovers Nora, who is coughing and has become weak as a result of the spores. Nora thinks they’re both going to die—so she makes fun of Ellie for killing them both. But Ellie, who wasn’t hurt by the spores, tells Nora that she is immune, which shocks her. When Nora realizes that Ellie is the girl that Joel saved in Salt Lake City, she tells them the terrible truth: Joel killed everyone in the Firefly hospital, including Abby’s father, who was the only one who could make a cure. Ellie is still focused on asking where Abby is, even though she knows what Joel is doing.

Nora won’t betray her friend, even though she is getting sick and dying. Ellie gets angry, grabs a pipe, and starts beating her while screaming for help. Ellie finally loses it because Nora won’t say anything. Her anger is just like the violence she saw in Abby. The violent scene shows how far Ellie has fallen into darkness.

CLOSING SCENE: A STOLEN MOMENT

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode5
Joel (Pedro Pascal)

At the end of the episode, there is a sudden change to a softer moment. Ellie wakes up in her old bedroom, which feels like a dream or a flashback to a better time. Joel (Pedro Pascal), who plays the part, walks in and says, “Hey, kiddo.” Ellie smiles back, even though she is tired and happy. The brief glimpse of Joel is a bittersweet relief from the episode’s constant tension and shows how love is what makes Ellie’s pain worse.

“Feel Her Love” is a masterclass in tension, character development, and world-building. Ellie’s descent into vengeance, Dina’s steadfast loyalty, Jesse’s timely intervention, and the chilling new Cordyceps threat weave a narrative that is both heart-wrenching and terrifying. The episode’s final moments, with Joel’s tender appearance, leave viewers aching for what was lost and dreading what lies ahead. As Ellie moves closer to Abby, the cost of her revenge becomes painfully clear, setting the stage for a climactic reckoning.
