Created by Lena Waithe and executive produced by Common, THE CHI is a coming-of-age drama series set in the South Side of Chicago. The series centers around a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for redemption and connection. Over the seasons, THE CHI has explored the interweaving lives of characters navigating love, loss, ambition, and survival in a city full of conflict and community.
With Season 6 marking the show’s most-watched run yet—streaming viewership jumped nearly 25%—Season 7 takes that energy further. Under Alicia’s powerful leadership, the women of THE CHI are stepping up, battling for control, and redefining power in their own terms. As relationships shift and loyalty gets tested, only one can wear the crown—and it won’t come without sacrifice.

THE CHI SEASON 7 EPISODE 5 RECAP: “SAFE HARBOR”
Episode 5 titled “Safe Harbor” brings emotional introspection, power moves, and pivotal turning points.
Reg and Jake Reclaim the Streets
Reg (Barton Fitzpatrick), freshly back in Chicago, wastes no time reclaiming turf. Alongside his brother Jake, he’s taking bold steps to challenge Nuck’s dominance. Together, the brothers carry out ATM heists, flaunting their minor victories with indulgent purchases. While they seem confident, they’re unaware that Detective Toussaint is gathering solid leads, reigniting her mission to take Reg down.
Bakari’s Big Opportunity
Bakari (Ahmad Nicholas Ferguson) is invited to Alicia’s high-society boat party, where he meets Hannah, a major book publisher. When he pitches his life story, she shows immediate interest—but her motives are business-driven. Instead of empowering his voice, she wants full rights to commercialize his trauma. Disillusioned, Bakari confides in Professor Gardner, who recommends self-publishing. This leaves Bakari at a crossroads, weighing his integrity against quick success.
Tiff and Keisha’s Candid Conversations
Meanwhile, Tiff and Keisha enjoy a much-needed girls’ day, reflecting on life and love. Tiff finds herself stuck between her complicated history with Victor and the new interest from Nuck. Still mourning Rob’s death, she wants to focus on motherhood for now.
Keisha’s own relationship with Emmett deepens. After a boat hangout with Darnell and Damien, Emmett realizes he sees a future with Keisha that includes marriage. This slow shift toward commitment shows growth from his formerly reckless nature.
A Wedding, Flirtations, and Faith
Dom and Jamal tie the knot in a fast-paced ceremony, while Tracy explores romantic sparks with Charles, though his church entanglements complicate matters. Pastor Zeke begins brokering a plan with Alicia to reduce Chicago’s violence. But Zeke’s motivations remain unclear, and Alicia may be manipulating the pulpit for her own gains.
As tensions build, secrets unravel, and alliances shift, the second half of Season 7 is set up to dive even deeper into themes of legacy, community, and survival in the heart of the South Side.
Stay tuned as The Chi continues to deliver layered storytelling with every episode.
