The haunted Annabelle doll is once again at the center of a spooky story, but this time it’s not a movie. A social media frenzy recently erupted with rumors that the doll had gone missing during a paranormal tour in Louisiana. Some people even linked the scare to a nearby fire. But despite all the panic online, officials and paranormal experts confirmed that Annabelle is exactly where she should be—locked up and safe inside the Warrens Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.
It all started after a fire broke out at Nottoway Resort in White Castle, Louisiana. While the fire didn’t hurt anyone, it fueled rumors when people attending a paranormal tour in the area said they couldn’t find the Annabelle doll on display. This sparked wild speculation across platforms like Facebook and X (formerly known as Twitter).
One post read, “I just saw a post on Facebook that they LOST THE ANNABELLE DOLL? I’m fleeing the country goodbye.” Another user wrote, “THEY LOST THE ANNABELLE DOLL?? LIKE?? THE HAUNTED ANNABELLE DOLL?? They take her on a tour around America… AND THEN THEY LOSE HER?” The panic was clear, especially among horror fans who have followed the terrifying legacy of Annabelle for decades.
For those unfamiliar, the real Annabelle doll is not the porcelain figure seen in movies. She is actually a Raggedy Ann doll, famously linked to Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators who claimed in the 1970s that she was possessed by a spirit. Her story has inspired several movies in The Conjuring Universe—making her one of the most talked-about haunted objects in the world.
To calm the storm of rumors, Dan Rivera from NESPR (New England Society for Psychic Research), a group founded by the Warrens, stepped in. He shared a video showing the real Annabelle doll inside her glass case at the museum. “Some wild and crazy internet rumors this morning claiming that we lost Annabelle. She/it is NOT lost,” Rivera said. His footage proved Annabelle had not gone anywhere.
Rivera’s quick response helped stop the rumor mill. “Annabelle may be scary, but she isn’t going anywhere—at least, not without the Warrens’ permission,” he added.
Officials also confirmed that there is no link between the Louisiana fire and the Annabelle doll. Though the doll has been a part of past tours, she wasn’t at Nottoway Resort during the fire.
So, while the fear was real, the threat was not. Annabelle remains safely behind glass, and the mystery is solved—at least for now.
