South Park Season 25 Episode 2 Recap

When Randy Marsh attends a cannabis expo, he discovers that some individuals shun cannabis ranches that do not employ people of color. Randy warns Sharon, Shelly Marsh, and Stan Marsh about their lack of engagement with African Americans, especially since Stan seldom plays alone with Token Black. Stan invites Token and his family, Steve and Linda Black, to supper at the farm. Token’s first name is revealed to be Tolkien during dinner, in honor of J. R. R. Tolkien. Randy brings Steve to Tegridy Farms, and Steve chooses to assist him with his finances. When Stan hears Tolkien’s forename, he is taken aback; when he phones Eric Cartman and Kyle, he discovers he was the only one who assumed the name was spelled Token.

When Steve sees himself on a billboard promoting Tegridy Weed, he becomes enraged, but when Randy offers him a share of the profits from Tegridy Weed’s recent growth as a result of the new marketing, he accepts the challenge of going with Tegridy Weed, despite his awareness that he is being commodified. Randy likens the business to Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Stan goes to the doctor and confesses his racism in thinking Tolkien’s first name was connected to tokenism. Stan’s error is strongly rebuked by the doctor, who also breaks the fourth wall to speak to him. He suggests Stan do some reading, which he does, starting with J. R. R. Tolkien’s books. Steve departs the farm as Randy rejected his offer for a new marijuana line.

Stan gives a statement in the school gym proclaiming the day J. R. R. Tolkien Day, but when he invites Tolkien up to speak, Tolkien says that he despises Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien then pays a visit to Stan at his house, when he confesses to mispronouncing Tolkien’s name. Tolkien pardons Stan and informs him that Steve has purchased Credigree Weed, a cannabis farm located exactly across the street from Tegridy Farms. Randy is enraged that Steve is using the knowledge he tried to teach Steve to steal his customers, so he pushes Tolkien out of his house and offers to chase Steve. Finally, when it comes to Tolkien’s name, the doctor appears on screen to break the fourth wall once more.
