With the comedy pilot ‘Not Dead Yet,’ Gina Rodriguez returns to ABC

Gina Rodriguez, an award-winning actress, has been cast in a new ABC comedy pilot called Not Dead Yet.  Casey Johnson, David Windsor, and McG are working on it . Not Dead Yet is about a woman who is at a crossroads in her life and decides to work as an obituary writer. Not Dead Yet is based on Alexandra Potter’s Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up. Gina is most recognized for her role as Jane the Virgin on The CW, and Not Dead Yet is her first network television appearance since that show ended in 2019. Rodriguez starred in all 100 episodes of Jane the Virgin, for which she was nominated for two Emmys and won a Golden Globe.

ABC’s Not Dead Yet Pilot

Not Dead Yet appears to be a heartfelt comedy with touching parts. Rodriguez plays Nell Stevens, a lady who describes herself as a disaster but is really only attempting to change her life’s trajectory. Nell abandoned her job as a journalist to assist her fiancé in realising his ambition of owning a restaurant, but he ended up abandoning her. Nell struggles to find work after returning to her hometown of Pasadena, and she shares a room with a roommate with whom she has little in common. Nell, on the other hand, soon finds a totally different kind of writing job, one she never expected or desired, but one that she desperately needs to alter her life.

Johnson and Windsor are known for creating ABC’s short-lived sitcom The Real O’Neals, while McG is a filmmaker whose credits include Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Netflix’s The Babysitter, and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Johnson and Windsor, who also wrote Greek and Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, will serve as executive producers alongside McG and wrote the pilot’s script. Johnson and Windsor’s other writing credentials include Greek and Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23.

Gina Rodriguez has also acted in a number of films, including Deepwater Horizon, Annihilation, Miss Bala, and Kajillionaire. Big Mouth, Elena of Avalor, and Carmen Sandiego are among her other animated television credits. Most recently, the multi-talented actress participated in Netflix’s action-thriller Awake, Prime Video’s romantic comedy I Want You Back, and Disney+’s live-action series Diary of a Future President. Rodriguez’s next projects include the romantic comedy Players, the road-trip comedy Like It Used to Be, the legal comedy Bobbie Sue, and the upcoming television shows Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Lost Ollie.
