Netflix’s romantic comedy series NOBODY WANTS THIS is officially coming back. The streamer has confirmed that Season 2 will premiere on Thursday, October 23, bringing fans back into the world of mismatched lovers Joanne and Noah.
The exciting news was shared by the cast during Netflix’s FYSEE event held in Los Angeles. Stars Kristen Bell (as Joanne) and Adam Brody (as Noah) took part in a lighthearted promotional video, where they played with a Magic 8-Ball and teased what lies ahead for the couple in Season 2 — ultimately revealing the premiere date to fans in a fun and playful moment.
Created by Erin Foster, Nobody Wants This blends humor, family, and modern-day love stories. The series focuses on Joanne, a bold and opinionated agnostic woman who runs a podcast, and Noah, an unconventional rabbi. Their relationship begins as a surprising connection but slowly develops into something real, despite their religious and personal differences.
Joining Bell and Brody in the main cast are Justine Lupe (Succession) as Joanne’s sister Morgan, Timothy Simons (Veep) as Noah’s brother Sasha, and Jackie Tohn (GLOW) who was promoted to series regular as Esther.
WHERE SEASON 1 LEFT OFF
The Season 1 finale, which aired on September 26, 2024, wrapped up several major character arcs while leaving the door wide open for more emotional exploration. In the final episode, Joanne pretends to be sick to avoid attending Miriam’s bat mitzvah. Meanwhile, Sasha informs Morgan about a lie told by Rebecca, and the sisters eventually reconcile.
The storyline takes a big step forward when Joanne and Morgan decide to crash the bat mitzvah. There, Joanne confesses to Noah that she’s interested in converting to Judaism. However, after a heartfelt conversation with Rebecca, she realizes the weight of being the partner to a head rabbi and decides she’s not quite ready. She attempts to break up with Noah, but instead, he chases after her and they share a meaningful kiss — hinting at a new chapter, but not without complications.
WHAT’S NEW IN SEASON 2?
Season 2 will likely continue to show how Joanne and Noah’s relationship changes as they deal with faith, love, and family expectations. Fans can look forward to more funny and touching scenes now that Esther (Jackie Tohn) has a bigger part.
In addition to the returning cast, Season 2 is adding some exciting guest stars. Leighton Meester, real-life wife of Adam Brody, will appear as Joanne’s middle school nemesis, which is sure to bring tension and laughs. Also joining the season are Alex Karpovsky (Girls) and Arian Moayed (Succession), though their roles are being kept under wraps for now.
Behind the scenes, there’s a change in leadership for the new season. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both known for their work on Girls, will step in as the new showrunners. Original creator Erin Foster will remain involved as an executive producer. This change could bring a fresh narrative energy to the already witty and heartfelt show.
A SMART AND MODERN TAKE ON LOVE
Nobody Wants This stood out in its first season for its unique premise and bold take on what it means to find love when your beliefs don’t always align. People who were looking for something different in the rom-com genre liked how it had a mix of awkward romantic moments and honest dialogue.
New writers, new characters, and the promise of more drama, laughs, and emotional depth in Season 2 are all meant to build on Season 1’s success. The return of Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, both fan-favorites with natural chemistry, ensures that fans will continue to root for Joanne and Noah’s complicated relationship.
Mark your calendars — October 23 is the day Nobody Wants This makes its much-anticipated return.
Be sure to catch up on Season 1 if you haven’t already, and don’t miss what promises to be an entertaining and heartfelt new season.
