Ryan’s family welcomes him home from the hospital. He feels he failed Mia by letting her go. He trusts her, unlike Nicky and Althea. Nicky, Henry, and Evan used Zhilan’s cameras to trap them. Evan, Ryan, and Henry understand Tan wants eternal life, not Raymond’s back. Mia and Zhilan interview Juliette at one of her hideouts. Zhilan wants to recruit Juliette by bringing up her brother Raymond and fueling parental animosity. Mia feels racked with guilt over what occurred with Ryan and believes she can’t return to the Shens. She forcefully threatens Juliette, upsetting Zhilan. Zhilan sees herself in Mia and wants to give her payback, but she’s worried about her mental health. Xiao exposes Tan’s endgame: he wants to open the realm of the living and the dead to bring back his dead son Raymond.
Zhilan pokes at Juliette’s sibling’s anger to distrust her father’s intentions. Zhilan tries to bond with Mia while they’re on the run. Mia lacks self-care. Mia doesn’t care if she survives her confrontation with Tan, as Zhilan warns her. When Zhilan gets a security alert that Tan is off the compound, Mia rushes in and finds Nicky waiting. Zhilan advises Mia to depart with Nicky, saying she has a greater chance of beating Xiao’s prophecy with her family and regretting her mental games. Mia lashes out as Zhilan and Nicky try to stop her from going after Tan alone. Mia escapes. Nicky’s criticism of Zhilan’s deception hurts her. Nicky tells her to avoid the Shens while she pursues Mia. Mia overpowers Tan’s security guards and accidentally kills one.
This shakes her confidence, and Tan captures her. After Zhilan releases Juliette, she thinks of Raymond. She finds confirmation of Zhilan’s story on her father’s desk. Feeling deceived, she convinces Kerwin to take down their father. Kerwin isn’t interested since he wants to avoid his father’s notice. Juliette is planning. She’s collected evidence of Tan’s unlawful activities and understands his secrets. If she moves against him, the board will back her. Juliette promises Kerwin she’ll win without him. Tan hears about her emergency board meeting to force a takeover. Juliette cracks when he reveals he bugged her phone. As her wrath builds, she moves to stab him with a letter opener. Tan snatches her weapon and kills her. He wipes the letter opener with shaky hands as she bleeds out. Now he’s more determined to follow through.
