Kamala Harris Wins Hawaii, NBC News Projects

Kamala Harris is expected to win Hawaii and get the state’s four Electoral College votes in the 2024 presidential election, according to NBC News. The state is known for being liberal and voted overwhelmingly for Democrats in both 2016 and 2020. They will continue this trend by supporting Harris as she runs against Trump.

Harris’s campaign has been centered on issues that are important to a lot of Democratic voters— like protecting democracy, improving the care economy, and standing up for abortion rights. After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Harris took the lead as the Democratic candidate. She presented herself as a leader ready to build on the successes of Biden’s administration while also bringing a new vision for the future.

Trump, on the other hand, has made economic growth, immigration reform, and lowering crime important parts of his platform for voters all over the country, including in Hawaii. Even with all of his work, the state has been mostly against Republican presidential candidates for decades. Biden won Hawaii with a strong 64% of the vote in 2020, and Hillary Clinton won with 62% of the vote in 2016. In those two elections, Trump was behind with 34% and 30%.

Hawaii has always voted Democratic. The only times this has changed was in 1972 and 1984. In a big but not surprising win for Harris this year, the state stuck to its blue preference and voted for him.

Projected Electoral College Votes:

Kamala Harris (D): 4
Donald Trump (R): 0
Claudia De la Cruz (I): 0
