What Is Bode and Gabriela’s Secret? The second episode of FIRE COUNTRY‘s third season is called “Firing Squad,” and it picks up right where the first episode left off in terms of excitement. As the episode goes on, it becomes clear that Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) and Bode (Max Thieriot) are keeping a secret from each other. This secret could have big effects on both of them.
At the start of the episode, Bode and Gabriela rush to help other firefighters who are hurt when a helicopter crash causes a dangerous explosion. Gabriela makes a big mistake while trying to save Gilmore (Paul Moniz de Sa), an injured firefighter. She gives Gilmore atropine to try to keep her heart rate stable, but things quickly get worse when it turns out that Gilmore is allergic to the drug.
In the heat of the moment, neither Gabe nor Bode noticed that Gilmore was wearing a necklace that showed he was allergic. This makes Gilmore go into anaphylactic shock. Gabriela saves his life with an emergency tracheotomy, but the damage is already done, and fear sets in. Gabriela starts to spiral because she thinks this mistake could ruin her career. Bode takes off Gilmore’s necklace to protect her, which is a risky move, but they both agree to keep the incident a secret.
As Bode takes his firefighter exam and is asked to describe what happened that day, flashbacks slowly show that there was a cover-up. A “hot wash” is a debriefing for firefighters, and Bode carefully leaves out the truth about what happened when he gives his report. He only tells a version of the story that doesn’t include Gabriela’s mistake— because he doesn’t want anyone to look into it further.
But Audrey (played by Leven Rambin), a cadet who heard about what happened from a firefighter inmate, starts to ask more in-depth questions. She says that during the rescue, Bode and Gabriela could be seen fighting. When Gabriela is asked what the fight was about, she quickly lies and says Bode forgot an oxygen tank. For now, this lie seems to make Audrey happy, but the real truth is still out there, which makes the episode more tense.
Even though Bode and Gabriela’s secret seems safe— things go wrong in the Fire Country as they always do. Jake (Jordan Calloway), who is shocked when Gilmore’s allergy necklace falls out of Bode’s locker after Bode passes the test, finds it. Now that this important piece of evidence is out in the open, the secret that Bode and Gabriela worked so hard to keep hidden could be found out.
There could be a big turning point for both characters in the next episodes after this news comes out. Bode’s future as a firefighter could be in danger if their secret gets out, and Gabriela’s career could definitely suffer.
