Anything’s Possible Movie [Review]

Teenage romantic comedy Anything’s Possible is a coming-of-age film. This is how it never loses sight of its core purpose of exploring a sweet teen romance between two characters who meet when they are ready to fully accept their individuality. The movie is obviously a labor of love for both writer Ximena Garca Lecuona and director Billy Porter.

In Anything’s Possible, Kelsa (Eva Reign), a trans high school student at ease is introduced to us. Chris and Em are Kelsa’s closest friends, and she is a YouTuber. The same boy, Khal (Abubakr Ali), sparks a crush on both Kelsa and Em. But Kelsa strikes up a friendship with Khal, who likes her. Their friendship develops into a romance. Because he is seeing a trans female, Kelsa and Em are no longer friends, and Khal loses his best friend.

Anything's Possible -

Anything’s Possible movie deftly examines the life of Kelsa, a transgender high school girl played by Eva Reigns, who is out and proud but hasn’t yet opened up to typical high school experiences like getting a boyfriend and experiencing her first love. Kelsa recognized who she is early in life, Kelsa feels that she lacks courage. She is therefore very wary of dating. On the other hand, Khal (Abu Bakr Ali) is reluctant to speak up. He is held back by his inability to speak up against his homophobic friend or to be honest with his conservative parents about his goals and decisions. When Kelsa and Khal come into contact with one another, their love story will only bring out the best in both of them.

When asked why she wants to be a biologist and what she loves most about animals, Reigns’ Kelsa responds that it’s because their originality is what helps them survive in the opening scene of the movie, which features her doing a vlog for her YouTube account. The college conversation is soon to come as Kelsa and her pals Chris (Kelly Lamor Wilson) and Em (Courtnee Carter) prepare to begin their senior year. Kelsa’s mother (Renée Elise Goldsberry) is prepared for it and is pleading with her daughter to complete her college essay as soon as possible.

However, at school, Kelsa’s concerns about college are put on hold when she teams up with Khal (Ali) for an art class and soon sparks start to fly between the two of them. A sheepish Khal meets his opposite, the joyful Kelsa, and their energies balance each other out well. While Kelsa and Khal’s love for one another continues to deepen, her friend Em (Carter) also starts to harbor affection for Khal. The same thing happens to Khal as his best friend Otis (Grant Reynolds) turns out to be transphobic, just as Kelsa is ready to lose a friend due to her new relationship. Khal, though, accepts Kelsa as she is. He is a good-natured, alluring, and understanding man who merely desires to be with her. Khal and Kelsa continue to develop despite their circumstances because they put their mutual trust and comfort ahead of everything else. On Reddit, Khal also offers romance advice to young people. Despite not sharing many traits, the two were a fantastic fit for one another.

Anything's Possible

The film has a 1-hour, 38-minute runtime.  Anything’s Possible is a meaty teen romance overall. It features romantically endearing moments, best buddies, arguments, and flowers. In the end, the movie will make you smile. Eva Reign as Kelsa gives a mesmerizing performance in every scene. She drives this youthful love story forward and keeps you interested. Regarding Abubakr Ali, the actor does a fantastic job at channeling David Attenborough, down-to-earth mannerisms, and bashful demeanor. Renée Elise Goldsberry, who plays Kelsa’s mother, also steals the show. Anything’s Possible succeeds in being a pleasurable teen romance, which is now uncommon given that most online series and films focus on the less positive aspects of the high school experience.

Amazon Prime Video is currently streaming the movie.
