Billy has a daughter from his son, who is an addict. Recent testing has shown the progression of Billy’s cancer. Billy responds to a call and finds his son, Jojo, struggling to awaken him after an overdose. They bring him back to life. The defense is asking for the harshest manslaughter penalty possible in court. Billy goes to see Leo’s ex-wife Dana and asks that she not get in touch with him as he is leaving rehab. Leo wants his dad to record an old song he stopped working on a long time ago. At a family gathering, Leo and his brother have a heated argument. A checkup at the clinic reveals that the malignancy is not getting better. Billy gives the song Leo desires him to record another try, but he just isn’t feeling it.

Leo overhears him discussing it with his wife, and the two of them get into an argument. While high, Jojo drops out during a boat voyage with Leo. They’re lucky he didn’t murder them both outright. Dana tries to extort more cash from his relatives. Leo is found by Billy unconscious once more. To care for Jojo, Billy made the decision to assume legal guardianship. Dana is forced to give away her legal protections. Leo is angered when they contact him about giving up his rights as a parent. Billy’s overdose is discovered at the recording studio, and his wife makes the difficult decision not to attempt CPR. When emergency personnel arrived, they found him dead. People observe the broken syringe. Billy receives a four-year prison term from the judge in court. After his wife failed to revive Leo and was accused of homicide, he took the blame. Since Billy only has some time to live, he is brought to prison to complete his punishment, which may be a life sentence.
