In SEASON 5, EPISODE 2 of 9-1-1: LONE STAR, Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) and Pastor Trevor (D.B. Woodside) are falling in love, but difficulties arise. Tommy’s spontaneous proposal, intended as a romantic gesture, takes an unexpected turn when the two encounter Trevor’s ex-wife. Tommy is ready to make the commitment and marry a priest, but Trevor tells him that his ex-wife is a big reason for this choice.
Tommy surprises Trevor by asking, “What would you say if I asked you to marry me?” This comes after a courtship full of frog rainstorms and public vows of love. Trevor is ready to say yes, but he brings up a problem that Tommy didn’t expect. Trevor’s ex-wife has the power to stop them from getting together again. In order to keep their daughter safe, Trevor’s ex-wife insists on meeting and giving her permission to anyone who might become her daughter’s stepmother. She could end their shared custody deal if she thinks Tommy is not fit to be a parent…
Tommy is now in a tough spot after this news. Tommy finds himself in a difficult place after this disclosure. She makes it very evident that she won’t let her twin children under examination from a stranger since she herself is quite protective of them. Tommy’s need for love conflicts with her mother instincts create a perilous situation. Her loyalty to her girls’ welfare is relentless even – if it means jeopardizing her happiness with Trevor.
Tommy and Trevor’s relationship is given a new level of complexity by this plot, which shows that their love is about the children and mixed couples they are striving to build in addition to two people.
Rashad Raisani, who co-runs the show, has called this story “beautiful,” and there are more turns and changes to come.
