They already made a movie about Gabby Petito. This is gross. She died only last year. https://t.co/12BSyG8jgW

Blonde, Dahmer, and now they’re making a Gabby Petito show. we need to stop with the biopics. they do way more harm than good, for real.

This is a real tragedy and horrific murder that happened less than a year ago.
This movie should have never happened. The family is still grieving and didn’t authorize this. The way studios use true crime is sickening. Gabby Petito was a real person. Gabby deserved better. https://t.co/PplTuEXURU

In a new Lifetime film, Skyler Samuels discusses playing the late Gabby Petito:
Skyler Samuels, Evan Hall, and director Thora Birch were all present on set and spoke with ET about the importance of conveying this cautionary tale about domestic violence in relationships.
“When I was presented with the opportunity to portray Gabby I was admittedly quite overwhelmed and it was a hard decision to make,” Samuels says, explaining that “it’s a big responsibility to play someone who was alive.” The actress adds, “The world should know that she was a fighter and she was fierce and there’s a lot more to her than initially displayed.” “It’s important to note that this story is not about what happened. It’s about how it happened,” Samuels says.
Birch emphasizes that the movie is set in “their time frame,” adding that “it’s largely focused on their journey. It’s a road trip romance that goes horribly wrong.”
While Birch says “there are many, many, many Gabby Petitos out there” that didn’t get the same amount of media attention, what also made her disappearance interesting was how internet sleuths got involved with the investigation. “[They] tracked Gabby’s locations, and where they visited and found those Easter eggs,” the director notes, explaining that she “was always fascinated by the role social media played in discovering and learning about the truth of what eventually happened to Gabby.”
Ella Dawson, a writer and cultural critic, slammed the announcement on Twitter along with many others and dubbed the filmmakers “vultures” for making money off the case less than a year after Petito’s passing.
