The Resident Season 5 Episode 16 Recap

It’s been three years since Nic’s (Emily VanCamp) death, but that doesn’t make her husband, Dr. Conrad  (Matt Czuchry), any easier to live with his loss. Eliza, a patient of Dr. Devon’s, was undergoing treatment. Conrad discloses to Pastor Aaron Deering (Tobias Truvillion), that he’s experiencing new grief, but he’s not sure what’s causing it. He confesses that he has had some crazy job situations. Devon discovered that Eliza had tried suicide three times in the previous six years after looking into her. After a few moments, she bolted from the hospital. When she stood in front of a bus, Devon tracked her down and prevented her from committing suicide once more. Eliza, according to Dr. Malco, has treatment-resistant depression. Devon desired Deep Brain Stimulation as a treatment option. However, there is no assurance that this will work. So Devon talked to Dr. Sutton about it, and she agreed to do it. Eliza consented to go through the same thing, but only if it meant another suicide attempt. Eliza survived and underwent DBS, and after all these years, she finally found some peace.

Pastor Aaron, who has been experiencing significant chest problems since receiving a cardiac stent, was being cared for by AJ and Conrad. However, a patient should not have a cardiac stent prior to experiencing a heart attack. AJ then met Aaron’s cardiologist, only to discover that he was a con artist. Pastor Aaron was on the verge of death. AJ decided to operate on him, and the procedure went well. Throughout it all, Meghan encouraged Dr. Randolph Bell to support his leg with a cane. Bell dismisses it, believing it to be nothing more than a capitulation to the disease. Bell uncovers more complaints about Bosley in the hopes of persuading the board to investigate Emily’s case. AJ and Conrad each utilize a cane to persuade Randolph that it is acceptable to accept this assistance. Trevor and Billie have a meeting. He tells her he acquired a career in biochemistry to accomplish what he did legally before. For the right reasons, he never wanted to be a doctor. Billie expresses to him how she feels like a mother because of him and how much she loves and admires him.
