The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards were a glittering celebration of how anime has changed the world, and Solo Leveling was the show that everyone was talking about. The event, which was live-streamed from Tokyo, brought together anime fans, artists, and voice actors from all over the world to honor the best in storytelling, acting, and production.
At the heart of the celebration was Sung Jinwoo, the protagonist of Solo Leveling, who claimed multiple honors along with the show. The anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures not only thrilled fans with its action-packed visuals and character development but also stood out in nearly every major category it was nominated in.
SOLO LEVELING won Anime of the Year, beating out popular contenders like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, DAN DA DAN, and Kaiju No. 8. The series, based on the Korean web novel by Chugong and illustrated in its webtoon form by Jang Sung-rak (Dubu), continues to impress fans with its gripping narrative and stunning animation.
Sung Jinwoo, voiced by Aleks Le in English, also took home the award for Best Main Character. His journey from the weakest hunter to a powerful, world-saving monarch captivated audiences worldwide. The English dub performance by Aleks Le was so strong that it also earned him the Best Anime Voice Artist Performance – English award.
It also won for Best New Anime Series, Best Action Anime, Best Anime Score (composed by Hiroyuki Sawano) and Best Ending Sequence for the krage song “request.” The anime also won awards for voice acting in other languages. Charles Emmanuel (Brazilian Portuguese) and Masumi Mutsuda (Castilian Spanish) were both praised for their roles as Jinwoo.
Jinwoo has to find his way through a dangerous world full of monsters and hunters in the original story of Solo Leveling. After making it through a dangerous dungeon raid—he is picked by an unknown system that makes him stronger, which is unheard of for hunters. The main plot of the series is how he changes into the Shadow Monarch, a powerful figure who rules over the dead.
The win for the anime is more than just a celebration of great animation; it’s also a big deal for Korean content in the world of anime. Solo Leveling isn’t slowing down any time soon—a second season has already aired and a Korean drama based on it is being made. Netmarble’s release of Solo Leveling: Arise and the ongoing spin-off Solo Leveling: Ragnarok both add to the world of the game.
Along with Solo Leveling’s wins, the Anime Awards also honored Attack on Titan for having a huge effect on culture—ending a legendary chapter in anime history. Honors and musical performances made the event even more exciting, making it one of the most memorable ones yet.
The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards showed not only the best anime but also how powerful stories can be in languages and cultures all over the world. Solo Leveling, a game that used to be an unknown but is now a huge anime hit, led the way this year.
