Rakesh Madhava and Edmond Ku From Theranos – Elizabeth Meriwether’s “The Dropout,” created and adapted from Rebecca Jarvis’ ABC Audio podcast of the same title, follows Elizabeth Holmes (played by Amanda Seyfried), an accomplished Stanford student who drops out to form Theranos and revolutionizes its blood testing process. This show draws inspiration from Holmes’ life while simultaneously honoring its own podcast series format – as it follows her journey of self-starting this company that revolutionized blood testing processes worldwide.

On ‘The Dropout,’ Elizabeth joins forces with Rakesh Madhava and Edmond Ku – two brilliant engineers – to design an innovative blood testing device requiring only one drop of blood for analysis. As this series draws from Holmes’ true-life narrative, viewers may be eager to know more about these figures’ inspirations and their future prospects with Theranos – so prepare yourselves because I am about to give you all of this info!

What Happened to Rakesh Madhava and Edmond Ku? Why Did They Quit Theranos?

Rakesh Madhava and Edmond Ku are depicted as two of Theranos’ top employees. Elizabeth takes an unprecedented step by starting her own company; determined to disrupt the medical industry with her innovative idea for an easy blood-testing device. Madhava and Ku are two brilliant engineers she hires to bring her vision into reality, working tirelessly to develop their devices. Will they succeed in producing something game-changing that revolutionizes medicine forever? Tune in now to find out. Utkarsh Ambudkar makes an unforgettable impression as Rakesh Madhava in Ghosts – his iconic portrayal of Jay in this hit sitcom is undeniable! While James Hiroyuki Liao plays Edmond Ku – both actors have made memorable performances in various hit series such as Cowboy Bebop and Manifest.

Ku is likely inspired by Edmond Ku, an engineer known for his exceptional ability to overcome difficult challenges in Silicon Valley. Holmes brought Ku on board to lead Theranos’ Engineering Division in 2006. This episode reveals that Ku was born in Hong Kong but spent part of his childhood years living in Canada before eventually moving to America in 2007. As the architect behind creating “Theranos 1.0“, his role at Theranos was pivotal during his tenure there before leaving in 2008.

However, while Rakesh Madhava may exist as an individual in real life, his character in the show likely does not completely mirror him. We met Madhava, a brilliant software engineer 2005 who founded his own company back then. In contrast, fictionally, Madhava worked at Theranos until 2008 as a biotech engineer, making Madhava an amalgamation of various early employees at Theranos.

On the next episode of “Corporate Drama,” tensions escalate as Rakesh Madhava and Edmond Ku unexpectedly leave their roles, prompting their teammates to investigate why these two have suddenly chosen to depart so abruptly from the group and manage any fallout as they attempt to move forward without two key figures. Tune in to discover what caused their sudden departures!

In Episode 3 of “The Dropout,” Elizabeth is under increasing pressure to show the board of directors she can fulfill her duties and responsibilities as CEO. Eager to speed up the prototype’s development, but its cutting-edge technology remains years from perfection, Elizabeth makes an unexpected move by hiring Brendan Morris as leader of another engineering team to quicken the development timeframe. Desperate, she places both engineering teams against one another so the development process moves more swiftly.

Elizabeth pushes Ku’s engineering team hard, working around the clock. When Elizabeth becomes dissatisfied with their progress, she fires Ku. When “The Edison,” Morris’ latest device, failed to produce precise test results as intended, Ku was fired, and Madhava left Theranos altogether due to Elizabeth’s tactics causing significant setbacks for Theranos. Ultimately Elizabeth’s inability to understand engineering and technology within Theranos resulted in valuable employees like Ku and Madhava leaving Theranos caused significant setbacks which caused major setbacks for Theranos as a whole.
