Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 15 Recap
As the episode begins, Bailey is preparing the attendings for the two council delegates who will be arriving at the hospital that day to begin their inquiry. Bailey intends to interview Richard (James Pickens Jr.) first, but he has other plans for the day: He’s having his medical examination. Richard believes that David and Kai (E.R. Fightmaster) are fair and impartial judges. Nick came to Grey Sloan with a kidney for donation via Catherine’s private jet and limo. He is in Seattle for the time being since he is undergoing transplant surgery at Grey Sloan. He’ll be operating on a brain-dead patient Mason Taylor and transplanting a pig’s kidney. After Helm questions why Nick brought an organ for a brain-dead patient, Nick discloses that they’re undertaking a xenotransplant and giving pig kidney. This has never been done before and has the potential to alter the medical world.
Schmidt’s mother is knocked out. Schmidt had to enlist Richard’s assistance and do minor surgery in the basement to save his mother’s life. Schmidt becomes agitated when she begins to bleed. Fortunately, the paramedics arrived just in time. Members of the medical accrediting council will be visiting Grey Sloan. For the rest of the day, all of the doctors will be monitored. Despite the fact that her residency program is on the line, Bailey remains upbeat about the situation. Richard cannot be interviewed by the council because he is having his physician assessment on the same day. To obtain a solid idea of what’s going on at the hospital, the council members question all of the doctors. Kai and Richard are in charge of Richard’s physician evaluation. In the middle of the evaluation, Richard accuses Hamilton of attempting to snare Meredith. He rushes off and subsequently reveals what’s going on with Schmidt to Bailey. Bailey has no idea that Hamilton and Nick are working tirelessly to bring Meredith to Minnesota.
When Bailey discovers the truth, she confronts Meredith about Minnesota. Bailey becomes enraged. Bailey accuses Meredith of being conceited and recalls Meredith’s background. Meredith tells her she can’t talk to her or Nick It becomes evident that something is amiss with Bailey all of a sudden. Meredith believes Bailey suffered a heart attack at first. Meredith still loves Bailey despite her harsh words. Bailey did not have a heart attack, but Maggie advises her to take it easy before she has another cardiac incident. Kai introduces himself to Link nicely. Schmidt and his mother arrive in an ambulance, interrupting their introduction. The council members eventually interrogate Richard, and there are wonderful flashbacks to the first season. He claims he’s willing to resign if necessary to ensure that future generations can train at Grey Sloan. In the meantime, Schmidt offers Hamilton a statement about the residency program and Richard. Richard finds afterward that he acquitted himself admirably on his assessment.
The accreditors give Bailey their verdict that night. Grey Sloan is said to have one of the best surgical programs they’ve ever seen, with residents who seem really enthusiastic about their profession. However, the residency program is still on probation because the hospital does not have enough surgeons to provide a good education to the residents. Grey Sloan now has three weeks to make significant adjustments, or the program will be permanently shut down. Meredith tells Nick that she’s ready to “start anew” as Bailey is learning all of this. She’s decided to leave Grey Sloan and take the position in Minnesota that has been offered to her.
