Directed by Makoto Shinkai, Weathering with You is an animated romantic fantasy movie. It will receive an awards-qualifying limited run 2019 to compete for next year’s Oscars, with Japan eyeing the Best International Film category. it will be the japan’s first submission of an anime film in that category since 1997’s Princess Mononoke.
Release Date
The film was already a huge hit in Japan but build up internationally next year, with a U.S. release date set for January 17, 2020.
About
Weathering with You takes place the difficult lives of a runaway and a lonely girl who has recently lost her mother in Japan during a period of rainy weather. Hodaka Morishima, a high-school teenage boy who has run away to Tokyo befriends an orphan girl named Hina Amano, who appears to be able to manipulate the weather.

Weathering with You sold 1,159,020 tickets to earn ¥1,643,809,400 (approx $15.22 million) in its first three days. on August 25, 2019, it had sold 8 million tickets and earned ¥10.73 billion (about $101 million). on September 16, 2019, it had earned ¥12.72 billion rankings in the Japanese film box-office.
