Disquiet Movie (2023) Ending, Explained!

Michael Winnick‘s “Disquiet” is a fast-moving independent thriller. Sam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), the main character, awakens in a hospital and experiences a number of frightening incidents towards the start of the movie. He runs into a violent patient who leaves and a nurse (Ashleigh Kearns) who disappears when he turns his head. Sam is once more being pursued by the aggressive patient, but she is able to flee. Sam’s and other characters’ backstories are revealed through flashbacks.

Additional characters, such as Monica and Carter (Trezzo Mahoro), are unveiled as the movie goes on. The movie doesn’t provide an adequate explanation for the occurrences, and the plot is still unclear. Some characters gain depth thanks to flashbacks, while others barely grow. Throughout the narrative, Virgil (Garry Chalk) and Lily (Rachelle Goulding) develop into interesting characters who come and go.

Disquiet (2023) Ending, Explained!

In “Disquiet” (2023), the lead character Sam ends himself in the hospital following a serious collision brought on by his distracted driving. In the ICU, he awakens and senses that something is wrong. The hospital has an abandoned, foreboding appearance. In his chamber, he comes across a comatose old man who suddenly assaults him. Sam successfully defends himself and kills the elderly guy with a scalpel, but he soon returns to bed.

Later, Carter and Monica (Elyse Levesque), two other characters, who are also stranded at the hospital, are introduced to Sam. Together, they strive to find a way out while overcoming obstacles and running across enigmatic beings. The hospital is revealed to be a metaphysical plane—a place existing somewhere between life and death. It is revealed that Lily, a figure who seems to know a lot about Sam’s life, is orchestrating the events and controlling the situation.

Some of the group members are killed by unidentified forces as they make their way into the hospital. Sam eventually discovers from Virgil, a figure resembling the guiding spirit in Dante’s Inferno, that they are capable of breaking out from the limbo with willpower and dedication. Sam comes to understand that the elderly guy and other beings he came across are his own future selves.

Disquiet Movie (2023)

When Sam and Virgil reach the hospital’s roof, they come across a young girl. Sam chooses to aid her in fleeing and must once more deal with his former self. Sam follows Virgil’s advice and defies temptation by taking the route to the roof, which is a representation of heaven. The film finishes with Sam waking up from his coma and sending his wife, Sarah (Anita Brown), who had been at his side throughout the ordeal, loving texts.

The film examines issues of good and evil, biblical allusions (including Lillith and Virgil as characters), and the idea of a metaphysical plane existing between life and death. With Virgil escorting Sam through the afterlife, it also references ancient literature, notably Dante’s Inferno. According to the interpretation, the characters’ decisions will ultimately determine whether they go to the afterlife or stay on Earth. However, it should be mentioned that the film drew criticism for its inadequate translation of superior supernatural thrillers and for its bad storyline, actors, and execution.

“Disquiet” is billed as less of a standard horror movie and more of a supernatural thriller or mystery. Even while it may not have a particularly high scare factor, viewers who like supernatural thrillers and are curious about the plot may find it to be interesting.
