Netflix’s hit legal drama THE LINCOLN LAWYER is getting a fresh jolt of star power. Cobie Smulders, known for her long-running role as Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother and as Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has joined the Season 4 cast.

According to Deadline, Smulders will appear in the season finale as a character named Allison, a figure closely tied to the show’s lead character Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. While details about Allison remain under wraps, her connection to Haller hints at a potentially significant turn in the story—possibly setting up more drama in a potential fifth season.

The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling book series. Season 4 adapts the sixth novel, The Law of Innocence, which follows Mickey as he defends himself in court after police discover a dead body in the trunk of his car. With his freedom on the line, Haller must face off against prosecutor Dana Berg, portrayed by Constance Zimmer.

“This is going to be the biggest and most personal challenge Mickey has ever faced,” says co-showrunner Ted Humphrey. “In the first episode, you’ll understand the charges he’s facing and the stakes involved.”

Smulders joins a strong lineup of returning cast members including Neve Campbell (as Maggie), Becki Newton (as Lorna), Jazz Raycole (as Izzy), Angus Sampson (as Cisco), and Yaya DaCosta. Also confirmed for Season 4 are Sasha Alexander, Kyle Richards, Jason Butler Harner, and Scott Lawrence.

Though viewers may not meet Allison until the finale, her arrival could spark a new chapter for Mickey and the people around him. Whether she’s a legal ally, a foe, or a complicated presence from Mickey’s past, her role is described as “key” to the developing storyline.

Smulders brings an impressive resume to the role. In addition to her sitcom and Marvel credits, she’s appeared in series like Stumptown, Shrinking, American Crime Story, and Friends from College.

While Netflix has not yet revealed the Season 4 premiere date, the first three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer are currently streaming.
