Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 6 Recap

Atwater must speak with a number of inexperienced employees in Hailey’s place. After a perp chase went bad and resulted in the unintentional shooting death of a teen kid, all eyes were on Atwater. The victim, Johnny, turned out to be the son of a prominent, well-to-do white family who charged Atwater of “beating and gunning down” their son. The primary suspect recorded a video of the incident that revealed the true narrative (the leader of a car-jacking ring). However, he demanded the tape as payment for a reduced sentence. Atwaterrejects the chief’s suggestion to confess to sympathetic reflex that his body had betrayed him in order to soothe the couple. They pick up the other boy when they arrive at the chop shop but cannot locate the phone. In exchange for the video clearing Atwater, Oscar is willing to bargain. Torres consents to go undercover in order to speak with and get friends with OScar in the hopes of learning where the phone is so they won’t make a deal with him because Atwater is unwilling. When Torres speaks to the man inside the cell, the man begins to brag and admits that he left his phone with his girlfriend. They look up his girlfriend’s information and discover that she was the gas station attendant in the opening scene. She gives them the video recording that exonerates Atwater. Atwater visits Johnny’s parents and tells his mother about his last moments as the programme comes to a close. The final scene sees Atwater repeating those words to himself, a moment that Hawkins believes swings back to his character’s statement on empathy earlier in the episode, even though Johnny didn’t get to finish his last sentence, “I was just…trying to help.”
