Abbott Elementary Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Janine and Jacob are on their way to Abbott. They listen to Janine’s boyfriend Tariq’s rap tunes on the road. Jacob makes a remark about Tariq’s habit of driving Janine’s automobile. Jacob, as well as the other Abbott teachers, continue to imply to Janine that leaving Tariq is the best move she can make. Since eighth grade, she has been hanging to Tariq. Tariq has been clinging to Janine, despite her clutching having much to do with her vision of eternal love and growing old together. His rap career hasn’t exactly been fruitful for him. Janine has been unable to live alone due to his general incapacity. Janine also admits later in the show that she has spent her entire life with Tariq. Jacob, on the other hand, surprises Janine by revealing that he has a boyfriend, Zach. Janine is surprised by how little she knows about her coworkers.

Meanwhile, while Janine is interested in learning more about her coworkers, Jacob informs her that they are merely colleagues. The situation in Gregory’s class is dire. In math, all of the children did poorly. The pupils ask Gregory some funny questions while he makes them all complete arithmetic drills. Gregory’s treatment of them becomes much harsher as a result of this. Barbara inquires about Gregory’s seminar. Gregory informs her that he has assigned the pupils a math drill to do during their lunch period in order to make up for their recent poor performance. Barbara reminds him that the teacher is to blame for the students’ collective problem. Gregory later describes the situation to Barbara and Melissa. They advise him that small distractions, stupid inquiries, and having fun are all beneficial to the students. He doesn’t need to be so strict and stiff. He can sometimes let go and let the students do the same. Meanwhile, Janine is interested in learning more about her coworkers. Outside is a storm, so Janine gives them some chicken. She offers a game in which they all overindulge in some chicken on exchange for revealing one personal secret. When it’s Janine’s turn, she admits that Tariq is the only man she’s ever dated.

Janine becomes defensive when Barbara, Melissa, and Ava voice their doubts about her relationship. Janine is seen alongside all of the other teachers. She rushes outside, enraged. Gregory is close behind her, holding an umbrella. When Tariq arrives, they are having a passionate moment, which Tariq interrupts. Gregory finally lets loose and dances with his kids after Tariq’s terrible rapping performance. Jacob counsels Janine on her love life and the need of moving on from toxic relationships. He also assures her that they are more than just colleagues and that he is always there for her.
