Gary catches Danny practicing singing and dancing in his room — it turns out his school is doing Grease and Danny’s up for a part. But Danny’s not sure he wants to do it, because he’s afraid that if he doe sit the other kids at school might think he’s gay. Gary reminds him that he IS gay, but Danny clarifies: He doesn’t want to be the first one to come out .

Gary often uses humor to deflect serious issues, but Maggie has been pushing him to think about how his mother leaving their family in his youth has affected his relationships. Finally, Gary comes home and tells her the real story, with no jokes and no deflection.

Regina vents about Andrew, her restaurant investor, and as she talks, she decides to be more involved with the sexual assault survivor’s group she donated to recently because of her childhood trauma. Rome doesn’t understand what the two have to do with each other, and Regina explains: It’s a power dynamic. She doesn’t want to be under Andrew’s thumb anymore, and Rome decides he’ll go back to directing commercials because now he understands that he’d be doing it for the love of his life.

With Theo at a sleepover and the house oddly quiet without him around, Eddie and Katherine hit the town for a night out. Awkwardness turns to calm, turns to laughter, turns to a kiss. Katherine says she’s still figuring things out right now, but Eddie says he’s happy to follow her lead.
