The Good Doctor Season 5 Episode 4 Recap

Tonight’s episode of The Good Doctor opens with Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara) standing with Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) facing a huge ‘s poster of dr. Shaun. Lea likes the poster. Salen tells Shaun he shouldn’t be ashamed of his ASD and she has the right to exploit his image. She advises them both to think over the billboard for 48 hours before making a decision. Andrews likes representation. Mateo agrees. A patient has requested Shaun. Seymour’s father has done significant research on his daughter’s intestines Shaun tells him to quit Googling. Morgan meets a woman who has returned from India with a coughing fit and loss of breath. Morgan claims her left lung is dry. Salen finds Glassman in his garage working on his car. She’s arranged for Glassman to do press interviews. She needs his help. She had prepared encouraging remarks for him. Glassman dismisses the idea and returns to his car. Shaun tests a theory during surgery. The girl’s father was correct in his diagnosis.

Unless she obtains a lung transplant, the woman has two months to survive. It’s her last wish to see her son, who’s 12. Her son arrives. He wonders if she regrets her actions. Yes. He felt it was too painful to keep in touch. He believes she blames him. Morgan pauses. There’s a chance. Morgan and Park debate whether she is a bad mother. Unlike this mother, Park maintains he stayed in his son’s life.  Salen says Walt should be regarded as a doctor. And Shaun argues Walt isn’t a doctor. So does Salen. A meeting with Walt, who does not want Holly’s intestines removed, is tense. Andrews agrees because Walt won’t authorize their more harsh surgical options. The donor’s lung has cancer. Henry must donate part of his lung for this to proceed. Holly is unwell yet relieved to be out of school where students mock her. Shaun opposes Walt’s plan. Lea sees Glassman and asks him. Why isn’t he helping him if he’s still here for Shaun?

Finally, the son gave his mother a piece of his lung, repairing their shattered relationship..  But Morgan better hopes so. Shaun’s previous strategy fails. Walt mentions a case study. Apparently not for Mateo. Walt suggests above and below tubes. That, Shaun says, is absurd. Walt says help me find a way, but he melts when Walt snaps. Andrews sends Shaun. Andrews says Shaun was correct. Walt wants to tell Holly. Park and Morgan squabble over form. To which Morgan replies: She’s been injecting hormones to freeze her eggs. Why didn’t she tell Park? She acknowledges she’s not the most selfless person and doubts she’d make a good mother. Park is unable to react.

Shaun meets Glassman. Andrews won’t put this in Shaun’s file, he says. Shaun has 30 points for Salen. Glassman suggests they speak it out. Maybe he won’t be able to persuade Salen about the billboard. Holly tells Shaun she wanted him because of the poster. Shaun visits Lea. He erred on the billboard. Isn’t that good, Lea? Shaun thought it was stupid, but his ASD inspired Holly. And he was never fair to Walt. He suggests using a feeding tube as a pressure valve. Walt accepts Shaun’s help and the strategy. The procedure seems to be a hit. Walt thanks. Walt’s a fantastic doctor, Holly says. Shaun believes Walt is a decent father with good and horrible intentions.

Henry’s mother wakes up, wondering what occurred. Henry didn’t want her dead. She wants to make amends. He predicts discontent. She claims she doesn’t deserve happiness or love. Then she went. He argued with his father constantly, but he was assured that he would always love him. Glassman is stuttering as he calls a podcast host. He goes. He enters after seeing Shaun’s billboard. He’s annoyed Salen didn’t remove the sign. She shows him Shaun’s email. He only needs his hair parted correctly. Meanwhile, Park tells Morgan he’s old and doesn’t want to be a dad again, but he’s in love with her and will do whatever it takes. Shaun now wonders if he’s mistaken about the hair portion being on the wrong side, but Lea agrees. Lea and Shaun take in the billboard before returning home.  Glassman finds Lea’s note. She fixed his automobile. Glassman jumps in his car, grabs his things, and heads out.
