Superman and Lois Season 3: Lois’s Cancer
The third season will largely focus on Lois Lane’s tale. In the starting episode of the third season, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) assumed she was pregnant. However, Lois’s symptoms were actually indicative of Stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer. The family was unprepared for the terrible truth. Everything changed for Lois and her family after a diagnosis. Clark and Lois must battle the series’ most fearsome foe to date: cancer. The tumultuous second season drove a wedge between the Kent-Lane family, but it needed something of this scale to bring them back together. Most obviously, we see Clark on his knees, doing whatever and everything he can to make Lois happy.
Since Lois is having trouble adjusting to her new reality and is frequently missing her chemotherapy visits, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) is doing all in his power to make the situation as bearable for her as possible. Nonetheless, the story is finally emphasizing Clark and Lois’s amazing love for one another. It’s heartening to see Jon and Jordan doing what they can to help out at home and ease their mother’s burdens. Sam Lane’s (Dylan Walsh) efforts to prioritize Lois and demonstrate his parental love for his daughter are also heartening. When Lois cancels her chemotherapy treatments to follow a lead, her friend Chrissy strongly advises her to face the facts, face her fears, and prioritize her health. The show has focused on Lois’s career despite her diagnosis and the obstacles in her way, demonstrating her dedication to her work. She’s dead set on telling the world the real story this time around, and that story involves Bruno Mannheim (Chad Coleman). On the other hand, he isn’t the only villain this season. Lex Luthor, portrayed by Michael Cudlitz, will also make an appearance this season.
The flame within Lois ignites as she is treated like a fragile flower, and she stands up for herself. As we see in the fourth episode when she meets Emmitt Pergande (Adrian Glynn), she doesn’t want this to dictate the terms of her life or keep her from completing her work or taking care of her family. Lois takes a stand for her loved ones after learning that he assaulted Jon and took his truck. It’s a fitting homage to Lois’s bravery and dedication to her family that, upon their return home, Lois nearly passes out from exhaustion.
Many plot threads related to Superman will advance by the episode’s conclusion. Meanwhile, Lois’ story continues for quite some time. Clark cannot rescue or end the human struggle against cancer. Togetherness, endurance, and tolerance will be tested here. We can only hope that this experience causes her to make some adjustments, however temporary, that will ultimately benefit her relationships. For the time being, though, it’s great to see Lois Lane shining brightly and receiving the love and support she deserves, even if she refuses to accept it.
